1987 300E - Modifying
Im new, came packing guns to share...

Hi, yeah, i posted yesterday in the 'off topic' forum and figured i would make my claim in here now too... I own a 1987 300E that i got for free that didnt run. I got it from my g/f's Aunt and Uncle, sat in the yard for 2yrs till i got my grubby fingers on it. I lived in FL and had a fully tuned 12sec 89 Prelude Si. Now im onto the Benz.

list of mods... as follows...
Eibach Lowering springs with 8mm shims and poly bushings
Blistien Shocks and sturts
New rocker panels w/ shaved lift points *old ones rusted through*
Tune up
Fuel Pressure regulator
Fuel Filter + New fuel pump
Full stereo from the cabin to the trunk
Kuhmo Tires (stock wheels - yet to decide on aftermarket)

By July:
Rear main
Tranny rebuild (since i need the rear main, do it all at once)
500E Rear sway bar
Custom wheels (16 x 7.5 *style to be decided* w/ Toyo Proxies)

Everyone says i will never get the 300E to the 12sec marker but, what about the 14sec area? I could drop an LS1 but, i was thinking of keeping it a "resto-mod" as they call it in the muscle car world. I also thought about talking to Crate Cams about making me a cam and rods for the orig motor... They did all the motor work on my Prelude (stroked a B20Z from a CRV to 2.1liter with a high rev B16 Type R head). Who knows... WE SHALL SEE!!!

I'll post Stereo info in the audio section...

Hello Matt ! First congrats on your 300E. But I think your barking up the wrong tree if you think this car is going to be some kind of "Barn Burner" ! There are not a lot of engine mods for your car. If you want a hot rod then go for a 400E or E420! That said your on the right track with your suspension mods. I personally like a car that can flat out get around the corners! Must be the old road racer in me! I feel that my car gives me the best of both worlds has kick *** power and with the 500E bars and new KYB struts and shocks Bigblue corners like a goat on rails! Keep up the good work and dang post some pics so we all can enjoy your happyness!!

I was thinking about swapping out for a MB V8 of some kind. I have had luck finding parts lately so, i might try and find one for a swap. I was also thinking about doing a 500E conversion, swap out front fenders, bumper cover, grill head lights, bumper support and so on... I havent decided on a front roll bar either, the normal 300E is 26.5mm, the 500E is 28mm, not much of a difference, eibach makes one and i found a site that still has some... opinions?

Well I hope your wallet is as big as your ideas?? I think your talkin about lots of cash!! Get yer self a E420 and mod out the suspension and you will have yourself a nice little fast handling hot rod!! With a lot less grief and money!! BTW: That 28mm 500 E front and rear bar made my car feel like my old race car!!

I have had luck finding body parts pretty damn cheep lately. I bought my rocker panels for 73$ each, shipped. (was plannin on 500$)

SMokie, ur saying the 500E sway bars are good enough? The rear one killed 70% body roll with springs and shocks.

Dunno, we shall see....

Yup! have both front and rear 500 E oem bars! That and the KYB front and rear shocks Bigblue is a rip to drive ! True the KYB are firmer than the stock shocks but I get no wishy washy ride! We got lots of twisty roads in this neck of the woods so 275 HP gits the job done! But as a old SCCA sedan driver I wanted a car that would kill the curves not just go fast in a straight line! Drivin is fun again!!

Hey Smokiesman, did the KYBs raise or lower your ride height significantly?
