I think that two tone is going to be the next direction that custom paint goes. I am starting to see high line euro customs from BMW and BENZ. I am getting ready to paint my wifes BMW E36 British Racing Green with hood top and trunk in black. That will be complete within the next 45 days. There were several cars at SEMA that showed some very nice two tone that really looked nice. Looks like we are heading back to the 50's and 60's.

To better answer your question on a 300E, which I am also needing to paint this year, I am not sure the lines of the 300E are as well suited for two tone since it is a 4 door three box. The reason the Mustang looks so good is that long hood and chopped tail (same with my wife's BMW coupe). If you do the sedan, I would look at the hard line that runs from the upper corner of the headlights to the upper corner of the tail lights and goes just above the door handles and use a break just above or on top of that. Otherwise you will end up with too many busy lines that clash. Without question get someone to either airbrush or photoshop what you want in a few different variations first.

Well what im thinking is to have two matching cars. Im going to two tone my 69 mustang that has a shelby spoiler and my mercedes has a custom spoiler too so im going to diving the line at the edge of the spoiler and not have it too low. Also they will both have Black wheels to accent the top also it will have a pin stripe in between i don't know what color yet white or silver maybe?

I think those high end Euro cars you see with the black roof tops are actually panoramic roofs and not paint....Take a close look next time, you'll see what I mean.

If that's what you want to do go for it.

I was at a show in London late last year and they were all paint. I did see some panoramic roofs which I am guessing started the trend again. While we have been more focused on wheels and different aero packages, the euros have been more aggressive with aero and paint. They are just now really getting into the wheels from what I have been seeing. Maybe I just notice the paint more over there.

I'm thinking the same as McBear as a coupe may look nice, but a sedan might be a little too much and not so sleek looking. But if chrysler 300's and chargers look good with them then possibly the sedans might have a chance.

As far as two-tone go I was just going to have my lower cladding repainted to a brighter silver/grey color in a way where it also blends in with my rims since I don't think I'll ever go for complete chrome rims. What you think about that?

Mack I would go same color on the cladding , don't two tone. The two tone cladding will make your car look older, monotone will update the look.

Don't some Maybach sedans come in two tone?

Well in a few years anyways I'll be putting collector plates on it anyways. Some classic styling looks aren't that bad

im not sure the styling of the W124 would lend itself to the two tone scheme.

look carefully and youll note that the car gets wider for the passenger section and tapers as it approaches the tail. its an ergos, interior room, aero thing. that might give you a funky effect when coupled with a high contrast paint scheme as you have chosen.

what i would do is employ that paint scheme on the stang, then use silver or black highlighting on the W124 to "match/ pair" the cars. so id paint the side sills, and under the bumpers, use smoked euro lights and so on. that way the cars are clearly related, but you dont possibly ruin the lines of one to mimic the other.

Mongoose, If I did not see that you were on the Left Coast, I would have sworn you blew by me earlier today. There is a twin to that car here in Lexington KY. Looks VERY good.
