Increase Engine Power ¡¡¡¡
Hi guys ¡¡
I recently got a good amount of money and I was wondering if i change my actual W124 320 E or buying a new one. But im so in love with my car, I decided to keep it. Whatever, my question is: Is there any way of increasing horsepower or torque? which things would you change to the engine for its better working? I´ve been searching additives, have u heard about the Slick 50? Does it really work?. So please leave your replys saying which things you would change to leave the engine as new.
Thanks guys

I definitely want to go with a C36 motor if I ever do come up with that kind of cash to blow on it. That won't be for a very long time.
I've seen what a C36 motor swap can do - I was at the meet last weekend and one of the 190E owners did a C36 swap and the performance is completely sick now. Maybe I'll post videos later.

I wish I could have answers for all of your questions, but I'm currently researching all those questions for myself as well. I'll let you know - I'm sure some members on here know a few things.
Here's the video of my friends SRT4 vs. the 190E with the C36 swap.

Most people with amg w202's jump into the w210 e55 engine swap. Go for that!! THEN, if you want even more power, KLEEMANIZE IT!!! supercharged w124 with an e55 engine... and don't forget to put wide non ricey tires to make it look somewhat stock, and talk about sleeper!
Oops, sorry I reread your post. Just use synthetic oil and don't wait until its 3010 miles to replace the oil, make it 2950. Treat the car well, and it will take care of you too. Oh and use stock parts, don't go for those platinum spark plugs and such. And if you want a tiny miniscule boost of power, get a K&N air filter

Oh man that 190E 3.6 is sweet! What are the specs?? What did he start with? a 2.3-16?
Did he keep the 5-speed gearbox from the 16V if so?
I do think given enough distance, the SRT4 can catch up tho..but it sure won't look as cool doing that
That's one quick 190E!

I believe the 190E was previously a Sportline model and not a 16V. I over heard him talking about how he added on the 16V body kit. Plus, His car has the sportline features such as the red/black interior along with the CF trim which came standard.
Before the C36 engine, he had a 320 engine in there. He does have a 5-speed transmission, that could be the 16V gearbox.

Not what i want
All those C36 motor changes are quite cool; but im not interested in such a change. I want to replace parts of the engine of my 320 that would make it work as when new or even a little better. Also the C36 amg engines that you find nowadays arent as clean and new as mine, i only got 105,000 Km keeping the motor at low revs almost always.
And do the fuel additives work? specially the Slick 50?? I think i wouldnt change my 320 engine sound never, just pass 2000 rpm and an incredible sound until someway at 3250 it doesnt sound so much. seems like a fan working on there and then disconnecting. Any one knows something about this?.
Thanks
And remeber that all u guys are fortunate of having a W124
The best car ever.

when it comes to additives your best bet is bg44k for the fuel system or if your too cheap for that get seafoam. I guess zmax/slick 50/ and that lubelong stuff can tweak it back a tiny bit.

Additives other than fuel injector cleaner and octane booster for long distance driving don't cut it for me. As long as you maintain your vehicle properly and address any issues you may come across immediately you should be fine. Start with a good oil (I've begun using 15W-50 extended performance) and good gas. Just keep in mind your MB isn't a Toyota, so its always ideal to use the best stuff possible. Performance starts with the basic fluids and maintainance parts like filters, plugs, wires, and cap & rotor. If your car isn't running at its best unmodified, imagine how disappointed you'll be once you modify it.

Either has more performance than your W124 and burns way less fuel doing it.
The V6 E320CDI has SAME performance as a W124 E36 according to Mercedes Enthusiast.
You'll change your tune about how good a W124 is once you run a W211.

Not so true
In 1990 Mercedes-Benz was at number 1 in the top list of satisfaction; this was because of materials used, and also that the margin of money MB won wasnt so big. In this same list in 2005, Mercedes was 2 positions upper than the last ¡¡ Ohhh this is a real kickdown¡¡ now your question is: why? Well in the past 7-8 years MB got little quality components ( i mean little in comparison with what they used) in benefit of the money they would win with each car, the margin of gain.
Too little people know this, and really gets damaged MB´s image; now it seems they are trying to change this.
This is why i´ll always say a W124 is much better than anyone of actual, the materials used to make this cars are just supreme, an example: Since I bought my car i have never changed suspension or had any problem in engine or other. My neighbor has a new E 220 CDI and he was one day so normal when suddenly engine started burning in fire ¡¡¡¡¡ F U C K UP this is a MB ¡¡¡ why has he payed so much for this **** ¡¡¡.And obviously there is no comparison between my engine and his.
W 124 4 ever ¡¡¡ the best car ever
320 engine sounds just wonderful ¡¡

look, youre original post was about performance. not quality. the title of this thread is increasing engine power.
now, if you want, i can break down to you a little further; about how the introduction of lexus, infiniti and acura in the united states were the boom that hung the death knell over quality at mercedes.
we can talk about the currency fluctuations and how the japanese manipulated thier currency to keep it low and foster higher exports.
we can talk about the german labour movement, the collapse of the communist east germany, its subsequent merging with west germany, the hit the economy took. we can talk about a capitalist government trying to deal with the addition of millions of people to its system from a former socialist and commmunist govt. how the german economy faltered as a result.
we can talk about a company that had once led finding itself a follower, and in trying to become the leader again, stumbling out of the blocks when its complicated electrical systems became its achilles.
we can talk flash over substance or vice versa.
we can discuss the sudden influx to the stock markets of people who never used to invest in stocks, and how thier short term investmants of chasing the money were detrimental to the capital fundraising of boring old money stocks like autos when the internet was a new and fancy thing.
we can go on and on and tie each of those things to the fall of quality at mercedes.
but when we talk performance, its this simple. a new benz will outperform your old one. period.and get better fuel economy to boot.

Not sure
Im with you in all you say about the problems MB has had up to date. But im not so sure that a new MB would beat my 320, first of all mine is lighter, then this engine has 10 newtons meter more of torque than actual and similar bhp. Therefore, the old 320 its a car of 6400 rpm while the new one chokes injection at 6000. Obviously im talking about gas models, im not interested in diesels, cause a diesel with out their ****ing turbo is worse than a ****. But we arent here to talk about Comparisons or MB´s history, im interested in your opinion about which things you would renew in an engine to restore its new performance or more; i bought an injector cleaner(slick 50) that is quite similar to BG44k. I have been director of the Land rover prototypes section in Spain, and i have had a lot of experience with all this, but i want your opinion because you guys know much about this cars.
Thanks to all and please reply to my question ¡¡ xD

I said this once before, Technology is moving us forward, but technology has little to do with quality. There is no such thing as something for nothing. Newer technology makes cars faster, stronger, and more efficient, but you must remember to gain something something must be lost and in this case quality. And yes there are cars out there with everything perfectly but what then do you loose? More money from your pocket. Remember you get what you pay for.
