Exhaust for 300E

My 87 300E has a *&%$ load of problems..im in the process of solving them one by one. Now my focus is the exhaust system, I put the car up on my neighbours lift and the pipes are all rusted out and I think the cat is loose....it rattles when I hit the gas. So I was thinking about re-doing it with mandrel bent pipes....how much do you guys think its going to cost me for a custom fabbed exhaust???

The Pipe running into the Cat is rusted out on mine. I'd be interested in an estimate as well.

I would go to a good shop to get an estimate, I had a catback custom bent magnaflow system put on my 400E and it was about $300. The 4.2l v8 sounded amazing with that muffler and no resonator, but for my TE I am going to get a magnaflow installed as I think that they sound great with the mbz I6 motors, i have one on my 68 280sel and it sounds so smooth.

Should be about a couple hundred bucks if you go w/ the magnalfow system. I've heard good things about magnaflow and I'm probably going to go with that setup myself. You could look to get a Eismann or Remus exhaust but you'll have to find one first and don't be disappointed when you see the price tag.

Yeah, Orginally I wanted to do a Eisenmann or Remus set up but they are just too expensive. You can pretty much build a Magnaflow or whatever to be similiar and installed for half the cost of the Eisenmann or Remus muffler alone!

300E
I had a whole new high flow stainless steel exhaust system put on my 300E with a cat, muffler and resonator. It was too loud (mainly inside the car at 2-3K RPM) so I took it back and they replaced the resonator with another muffler, now it sounds good inside and out and gives a noticeable power gain. It actually cost less then the quote for the genuine Mercedes exhaust system. I ended up paying over US$1100 for it but they did a really good job.

Ive been looking in to the eisenmann system...and its alot a $$$ and I dont think its the entire systen...only the back half, but it looked sick on the E320 they had on thier website. So everybody's going with flowmaster ehh, maybe ill go the same way...Does "meineke" do good jobs on exhaust's???

Eisenmann is just the muffler alone. I had a buddy contact them and they don't offer any other form of piping for the W124. Very expensive systems, but the quality and the sound from it is amazing. One of the W124 member's here has a Eisenmann Race exhaust on his car.

I would not got with a flowmaster for the 6cyl engines, they tend to have a little more tendency to resonate or have a bark than say a v8. When I first bought my w108 many years ago it had a flowmaster style muffler on it and it sounded god-awful, but with the magnaflow it sounds like sirens tempting greek mythology heroes. The difference is that flowmasters are hollow chambered mufflers whereas the magnaflow has a special sound deadening material to eliminate the resonance. This summer I am getting a magnaflow system on my TE asap, go with that and it will sound great and it will look just as good as a higher price eisenmann or what not.

The member is badbenz94. The Eisenmann race exhaust looks just like the Brabus exhaust for the W124 but I believe the tips are larger in diameter. I have a few buddies who have 500's and AMGs with the Eisenmann Race exhaust and to be honest ... the sound is so sexy. lol
