the coupe trunk is flatter than a sedan. the sedan tapers down from about 6 inches from the outside of the trunk lid. the coupe is essentially flat.

thank you, ash...
the only thing is that the 6" inches on both sides kinda stick "up" on my sedan. is it normal? i've never seen this type of spoiler installed on a vehicle so that's kinda doesn't look good to me. I thought, I might have bought one for coupe....but I'm still not sure. Not only that, I feel that i'm missing 1/4 " of the spoiler on one side if I'm going to perfectly align with one side. Is this normal?
P.S.
I kinda feel dissapointed.

Jack, I was looking at the pictures you posted a long time ago of the AMG ducktail you bought and made me jealous with ... lol ... and you have the right spoiler. It's for the sedan as it curves on the ends for the sedan trunks. Then again, It could be because you have a 94-95 W124 and I've been told the trunks are slightly different since I asked my mechanic about swapping mine out for the newer style trunk. Perhaps you can take some pictures Jack and show us what you're talking about, but I'm pretty sure I'm right on target...

I'm pretty sure that the only difference is the plastic trip piece behind the license plate.

If that was the only difference then I would have swapped out the trunks completely already. Dig up some pictures and look at the trunks of W124's as the years progressed.

OK, so I dug through some pictures and it sure seems to me that from as old as 1986 until as recently as 1993, the w124s all had the same trunk. In 1993 they added the trim piece behind the license plate. It looks like in 94 they switched to a new trunk.

I believed I noticed that the cabrios kept the old trunk, even during the 94/95facelift

Ok, so I have learned my lesson about posting in this forum. Thank you Chris and Shadowgriffon. I will never post again until I have triple checked all of my information, even if I'm going to preface it with "I think" or "I heard" or other such disclaimers. Sometimes I forget that this forum is for the sole use of Mercedes experts and that anyone without 100% certainty of all things w124 (including cabrios) should just shut their fool mouth and go find a forum that caters to people who don't know it all.

Again, I apologize for staining your private forum with my foolish posts.

Thank you for straightening me out with your wise criticism.

And no, I am not LOL or even smiling for that matter.

haha I know Makahveli.

Don't get so butt hurt mgw_300e. You apology is accepted but understand this is the world wide web and a online forum community. Don't take post other people make to heart all the time. Sometimes I forget that this forum is for the sole use of Mercedes experts and that anyone without 100% certainty of all things w124 (including cabrios) should just shut their fool mouth and go find a forum that caters to people who don't know it all. I'm pretty sure you're the only person who thinks like that. Have a good one!

OK, my apology - sarcasm; what I said about this forum - again, sarcasm.

Sarcasm is when you say something that is absolutely and obviously untrue, usually the opposite of the truth, in order to make a point.

Let me spell out my point:

A) Your instructions to me to "dig through the pictures" was patronizing and snobbish. I am relatively new to the Mercedes world, and as such, I don't know everything. However, I don't need to be talked to like I'm some kind of jackass that shouldn't be joining in on the conversation.

B) When I tried to post again about what I found out, a second person had to chime in with more snobbish crap about what a w124 is; correcting me for not clarifying what I was saying properly.

To sum up, this board is a place where both expert and novice can come together and discuss the thing we all love - our cars. I think it sucks when I see "experts" knocking a newbie for silly questions or other things that apparantly are a waste of the "experts" time. I mean, God forbid anyone ask an obvious question or one that some "expert" already answered; because boy will you hear about it.

I don't want to waste any more space in this thread, so if anyone wants to continue this discussion, just let me know and I'll be happy to discuss this subject in another area of the forum.

PS - "butt hurt"? What the hell does that mean?

Pretty simple I will break it down for everyone...

Sedan 1986 - 1990 the original trunk lid with no insert
1991 - 1993 - Mercedes placed the insert in the trunk lid on sedans
1994 - 1995 - Changed trunk lid to incorporate chrome shorter handle. insert no longer a seperate add on, but moulded in with the trunk lid.

Coupe:
1988 - 1989 Trunk is flatter than sedan no insert
1990 - 1995 trunk lid had the insert

Cabrio
1993 - 1995 trunk lid is flat like the coupe but actual lid is smaller front to back with insert.

Hope that clears it up for everyone as to the trunks...

Mercedes benz 1991 300ce(RIP), now an 89 300ce
since were talking about trunks...

yesterday i wass driving and i ended up behind what looked like a early to mid 90s benz. looked like a w124 but i couldnt be sure because it had no markings on it. anyway, i saw something really interesting about it...all the way across the bottom of the back of the car(the bottom of the trunk, and wrapped around the back of the rear quarter panels to under the tail lights) there was a sort of silver lining. it looked really good in my opinion. also, the reverse light was located in the lining and the bottom of the tail lights were cut off by about an inch to make room for the lining. anybody know what model this is or if its a update on a w124? thanks
