There was a mid-model facelift. After the facelift, the car was called a 500E.

There's a good wiki on the W124 MB. It was a fabulous car and I'd love to have one.

All the W124 500's I've seen have had that rear seat setup. And to the best of my knowledge, the W124 500E and E500 are the same car. It has the 119.974 engine and the other goodies you'd expect. As far as I know, the 500 got the same treatment as the rest of the W124's in '94 with the new numbering format and updated grill/headlights. I'm partial to the second one as it's the same color as my 400E

No offense, but you seem to want an awfully specific vehicle yet seem to know little about them. Not saying that's not OK, or that you don't have that right, just seems a bit odd to me.

You've got it backwards there. It was the 500E before the facelift in the '94 MY, then it became the E500. The 300E became the E320, and the 400E became the E420.

Paul no offense taken and infact i think i am confused myself too...I am in the market for a performance sedan and can wait until the spring '07 to actually buy one.Since i had never seen the interior picts before but still it never crossed my mind that it has a 2 car seat set up in the rear. On a separate note,i have considered the '03 E55 but the reliabilty issues doesn't make that car too exciting ..I also have inquired about the 01-03 ///M5 and have infact recently driven one too and loved it but deep inside me there's something about the 500E that really makes me want one...I think it might be the shape( love the flared fenders ) or it could be the rarety factor ( don't we all want a rear car that no one else has ) and last it could be the price as they could be had for mid 20's..
What i still don't understand is,why some 500E's look so aggressive ( could it be the wheels and the lowering effect ) and then there are some that look just plain old 500 series mereceds ?
Anyway i have a friend that lives 70 miles from me who actually ownes one so may be i should go visit him first and see the car upclose...Btw i have emailed the guy so lets see how it goes...
So does the '94 model E500 considered Porsche made too ?
Thanks

Well, if your really interested, my dad owns a 500e (93 I believe) in excellent condition seeing as he bought it from the people he sold it to and knows the whole service record and everything :-D Its been sitting in our garage and goes out for a few runs a week, so Im not sure about the mileage... or whether or not he wants to sell it... He mentioned it before, but Im not positive... If your really, really, serious, PM me and I will talk to him and see what he says. Oh yeah, we live in NJ so I donnoif thats far for you?

This particlar example looks to be in great shape, and the price is seemingly too good to be true if you look at the mileage. I'd love to have one of these too.

Yeah I've always liked them, too. For me, though, it's a bit much. I can afford to drive a nice enough car, but I can't afford to keep a car around that I don't drive. And I wouldn't want a 500E as a daily driver. Too much wear and tear. So I got a '93 400E. Comfy, powerful, and it get's about 20 mpg. Paid $7250 for it with 74,000 miles, and I drive it every day. Sure, a 500E would be real nice to have, but I find the 400E more practical for me right now.

Don't get too hung up on the Porsche thing. All 500E/E500s where partly assembled in the Porsche factory but that's the only Porsche connection.
All 500s have two rear seats.

400E
They were assembled by Porsche in large part because Porsche wasn't assembling many of their own. This was the early 90s and Porsche sales were in the tank.

Yeah I'm kinda in the same boat. I wouldn't want a E500 for everyday either, it would be a 2 weekend a month type of car and I need a new car now so by the time I get a chance to buy a E500 they'll be on display at the MB musuem..lol!

I sometimes get emotional about this car though, it was my absolute favorite Benz of all time for years and only the R129 SL of the same period was even close. Now things changed in 2000 with the CL, but that is another story.

LOL, we seem to have very similar tastes! Before I got my 400E, I was close to a deal on a 67,000 mile '94 SL600. I really should have bought it, but with 4 kids, and no garage, that was really tough to justify. And I just love the CL. We have a regular patient at the dental office where I work who drives a CL600, and he and I usually have a few minute chat after his appointment. Love that car!
