Rear Brakes locking Up

Had my rear brakes locked up on my 1992 400E. It gradually got worse over the last week, then, in the middle of the road, skidded to a stop. My mechanic says that when the master cylinder malfunctions (goes bad) it causes the rear brakes to lock up.

Anyone have any experience with this?
Expensive repair?

Thanks
Steve

Now they are telling me they cleared the three error codes, one was the control module, which put the car in "Limp home mode"
He said it worked fine after the codes all reset, but that if it does it again, the part alone (control Module) is over $1,000.00.

I am telling you, it felt like the brakes locked up on me.

What was said was, the throttle actuator is what was putting the computer in the limp home mode. And that the transmission has some issues. Both which are making the car feel like its being held back.

Thanks for the clarification Mike. I realize the problem now. What is your opinion on re-built actuators? They are a lot more inexpensive than the new ones.

I've tried 1 rebuilt actuator and it worked out good. We have mainly used new ones however, if I was given the choice I would probably try a rebuilt.
