M103 homemade cold air intake kit?!
I've been looking at the K&N site but there's no 57i kit for the 300 12v engine, only a OEM filter replacement. I really wanna get that big ugly (and hot) airbox out of the way. Has anyone fabricated this themselves and/or has pics of it?!

Yes but the stock intake set up is still the best route for the W124...
If that doesn't satisfy you - you can resort to the cheap a$$ set ups they sell on ebay.

You know i can make one and start selling it on ebay but i'm about to tell you the secret. You can get the intake tube from a honda and cut it to size and the air filter too. The SECRET is the vw rabbit intake boot that fits our cars.
By the way i'm making another intake system but that's top secret lol...well not really it's just in my mind right now and i'll post it when it's done...
Here's the pic of the boot and is only $8-12 ( i got one for 2 at the junk yard )

My buddy has a really good intake set up on this 190E which uses the same M103 motor. I'll snap pictures of it next time I'm at his house so you guys can see how he did it. Looks way better and works probably more effectively.

The problem with these intake systems is that you get all the hot air from the engine bay sucked into the engine. I'm gonna figure out a way to put a filter on the front of the car or try to find a 300D fender and route my pipes all the way to the fender so i can get cold air into the engine.

I wonder with the AMG bumpers if you can route the piping to the fog light cut outs and make it into a cold air application and make it work with heat shields, bypass valve incase water gets in and etc. that's something to look into.

My front bumber is missing like 1foot of plastic under the right headlight and I asked my dad if i could put a cold-air intake there instead of replacing the bumper. He gave me a look like find that bumper *****! He later said that it wouldnt be worth it because the water would get in no matter what, and it woudl just suck masssive ammounts of road-dust into the engine.

yeah, I'm going to look into this though and see what needs to be done and how to make it work. Seems like a new project to look into! Something along the lines of the AEM/Injen cold air systems with the bypass.

That'll be pretty sweet but hard to do as well. I wish the front ends of our cars weren't so restrictive along the lines of getting air into the engine bay.

I saw someone that cut into the front intake and mirrored it to the other side so that it drew from the left and right side of the car... Im not sure if it helped anything, but thats a good place to start. Make quad-intake. Two at engine bay level, and two below on front fender. If you wanna get crazy, two at the front quarter panels like the 300d! (only it had one right?)

you could certainly mount an intake low in the bumper somewhere near the brake cooling ducts, but you run the risk of suckin up water when you go through a puddle.
one thing you have to realise is that modifying yoru car begets limits. how many times have you seen some riced out car completely come to a stop and then cross a speed bump at an angle? i drive right over those and rarely even slow down.

HAHHAH... that reminds me of some civic i saw trying to go up my hill by my house. He had a dropped civic with insane kit and the kit got planed off 2 inches cause he had to go up the whole hill with the front spoiler dragging and stuff. Made me laugh

My AMG air cleaner draws directly from the hot engine bay! I do plan to duct it forward like the other inlet, the fender vent could work well.

Normaly, on the 2nd AMG intake is a hose to the right frontlight.
Here is a small picture of google:

You would not really see a detailed picture, because it lookes quite cheap like from a hobby-tuner ...
