18 x 8.5 on a W124??
Ive got a 300E, no suspension mods, and Ive found a set of 18 x 8.5 et 35 rims, the company says they fit my car no problem, but all Ive read leads me to think otherwise. Can anyone give me real life experience with this wheel size?

ZedStyle, How will a suspension drop help fit larger wheels?
Gorbettteam, You see that I am still getting conflicting info. You seem very sure, Can you point me to anything thatll settle this for me also?

a drop doesn't help you fit bigger wheels... more the opposite actually. but when you put on bigger wheels, your car looks 'lifted' like a 4x4. since most people add bigger wheels for cosmetic reasons, if it makes the car look funny, it defeats the purpose... so you lower the car to reduce the gap between the wheel and the fender.
gorb is actually correct, 18x8.5 doesn't really fit, the car in that link had to have the fenders rolled, and he also had to do some work on flaring the fenders, as well as run more negative camber, even in the back.
unless you want to go through a lot of work, 18x8 is probably the widest you can go, and even then, you might still rub your tires on the fenders on turns or bumps, etc.... pretty much everyone on here with 18 inch wheels is 18x8 or less

and that's just rolling then fenders, not flaring them... i'm sure if you got physical, you could flare them with the roller, but it's not recemmended. just buy 18x8 wheels, there's plenty of them out there, there's even 18x7.5...
edit: buy these, they're hot

yea nice rims.
yeah i was pretty sure you flare fenders with the roller, but its not recommended i take it??
-Ive heard that you can "cut off" the top part of the fender, bend it over to a wider point.
- weld on a mild steel filler and then sand down (smooth it out)
- Then prime and repaint.
I havent seen any exmaples of this method, i simply just heard from a mate of mine but it sounds alot more tedious than simply just using the fender roller.
has anyone heard of this??

if you put your hand under your fender, you'll feel a little 'lip' sticking out underneath it, the fender roller folds this lip back closer against the body of the car, giving you a few more millimeteres of clearance.
i would like to see a set of these rims you want to get, if you are willing to go through all this trouble to make them fit...
PS i believe Makhaveli has 18x8.5 wheels on his car, ask him about if he has issues

Hello, i finally just about completed my move and have my DSL back-dial-up sucked. So how much are you planning to lower your car? Mines fit but does rub under some conditions of turning. And I had to install bump pads 3 in the front to maintain a proper alignment which is often overlooked. I can't tell you yet about the rear for sure cause I need some of those adjustable camber arms that we been talking about lately cause I my rear won't staighten out enough for proper alignment, but let me add that I also have one of the most extreme drop kits for our cars which plays a big role. No rubbing at the rear but also the tires are slanted so suit yourself there as I already need a new set of rear tires.

hey, um i dont really have any exact figures in terms of a preffered 'height'
something like the wald car would be fantastic but whether its possible is another question

Yeah im looking get a wald kit in the future so that height would great preventing any need for adjustments when the kit is fitted.

I've got 18x8.5s on my car with 225.35.18s.
32 offset. H&R springs with no pads.
a lot of fender rolling and beating with a mallet....
the rears were tough. in addition to rolling the fenders I had to use the camber kit i installed
to dial in more negative camber to allow the wheels and tires
to clear.
