Smile Performance Upgrades!!

Okay. I just purchased my first MB. Im a very proud owner as my family will drive nothing but mercedes. We believe they are unbeatable in performance, durability, craftsmanship, and class. So, I am interested in upgrading my cars performance. If ANYONE, knows of ANY PART, or ANYTHING I can purchase, tune, change, or modify to get more out of my cars engine, PLEASE let me know. My car is a 1992 300e with the 3.0 liter engine. Thanks again

Custom camshaft + ECU tune + full exhaust = a bit more umph.

But personally I wouldn't modify a benz, dunno why even though it has just an engine like any other car.

If you wanted a better performing W124, get a 400E, E420 or a 500E.

ECU's are uselses. Full exhaust won't do much and custom camshafts - who knows how far down the line that will get you.

Okay. The thread above me. Where are you getting your intake from? And if there aren't that many performance upgrades for a 300E, where can I get some Killer cosmetic upgrades for my car (Body Kits, Chrome Applications, Etc.)

lots of cars
I have an intake but i don't really like it....

How to make a home made w124 intake...

Get a cheap intake pipe from ebay...
Go to the junk yard and get the intake boot from a 89 or older VW jetta or Rabbit....

That's it..

You can build your own 3.6 Liter engine. Brabus did a 3.6 (making use I believe of the cranks from a Diesel Engine) but it has a very short lifespan. You can also try to copy the more moderate Renntech and AMG displacement upgrades.

Otherwise custom build your own Turbo, buy the Mossleman turbo kit (6,500 USD), or upgrade to one of the V8s.

I just recently got an intake for myself, from Wade Performance Products, so far I am satisfied, my fuel economy has increased which i am very happy about. And whenever I hammer it down, it sounds good and has a little bit better pickup. Planning to get an exhaust done soon, magnaflow!!

I have to agree with Chris.....if someone out there has not pulled the trigger on a 124 - I would look for a 400E/500E/E420/etc...

My 92 400E is a damn rocket - stock - only 4 door luxury car I know that can get a second gear scratch at about 3/4 throttle.

If you have not driven one before, you are in for a treat.

You can also remove the timing resistor, improves your take-off, even on 2nd gear, at no cost

Yeah but you get crappy gas mileage at the same time.

Yeah, not getting rid of the timing resistor, saving gas is more important to me than having a quicker a pickup. Only if there was a way to do both....*sigh*

Cool

I picked up my 1988 300E for $4500 CAD with 167,000 kms, needs minor work, but other than that, everything is mint.

Bought my 1992 400E in March 2006 for $5k with 98k on the odo. Since, I have spent some $$$$ on major repairs (A/C, Transmission, Wiring Harnes to name a few) - well worth every penny.
Drove it to Lareado and back today - drove like a $100,000 car.

If he uses a camshaft with decent duration/overlap/lift along with the other 2 he'd get at least 15Hp at the top end, then again it will be slower at lower rpm range probably making the car slower (but bigger numbers on the dyno, Yay).
