Little update on the new suspension parts installed today...

Yeah, I know there's a reason they have the crook.
I'm just wondering whether it would make more sense for a 300e/ce driver to get the limo bar instead of the 8-cyl versions. But now that I look at how the sway bar actually works based on chris's 5th pic of it installed, it makes more sense... that the sway bar "twists" when it's under pressure... it doesn't flex. So yeah, that makes sense... my bad!

Limo bars are for the inline six and are 28.5mm up front...thicker than the 500E and have no crooks. Best bar to get for the non-m119 W124. The E60 AMG bar is 29mm up front...the best bar for the V8 cars.

ok, so next logical question... where do you get one of these Wiechers Strut Bars??? this is the 1st time i have ever heard of them, and looking at them installed on the car, it takes about 5 milliseconds to figure why they would be a big advantage. so now i must have one!!!

Chris, that black 500E is stunning. It looks like it was purchased new and placed in a hermetically-sealed storage unit!!!!
The only note I have for people considering the bars is: I put in the 500E front bar in my '88 300E which I had swapped a '95 E320 M104 into and had to bend one of the transmission cooler hard lines and run a taller line clamp spacer due to serious interference with the cooler hose. This is due to the jog in the bend of the bar you're talking about.
The limo bar would be straight accross & thicker which would be a plus for anyone running the I6 engine.

This will replace the forward swaybar.
Wholesale as of May 2005 was 168.00 USD. Given the continued fall in the dollar it has probably become somewhat more expensive. Factor in ten or fifteen dollars more for the four bushings.
I'm referencing Dave M.s absolutely essential document library for this.

Awesome, so thats the front limo bar for the w124 right?
What about the rear strut bar for the 500e? Because that is mad thick and will fit on my car (or so I understand from what I have read here and on mercedesshop).

Direct fit. I might worry about balance issues... especially with an automatic. You might want to consider the rear Sportline bar instead.

So I called Rusty today. The sportline swaybars are 154$ a piece and the bushings are 9$ a piece, 4 front, 2 rear. I didnt ask about the price of the rear 500e swaybar but I am assuming it isnt too much more expensive. Is this sportline bar the same thing as the "limo" bar that is the best bar for the I6 w124 cars? If so, I think I will go ahead and get these parts...

Cost: $127 (Which is what I get)
Wholesale: $170
List: $212
As you can see it can get very pricey. I would go with the 500E front and rear personally.
500E Front...
Cost: $89
Wholesale: $120
List: $149
500E Rear... also a lot more expensive than the front.
Cost: $156
Wholesale: $208
List: $260
Good Luck!

His point is that swaybars can be used to tune over/understeer. I used to know specifically how that was done, but now all I can remember is that it can be done. If you go too stiff in front or too stiff in the rear, you car can end up with massive oversteer or understeer. Swaybar tuning is not for the faint of heart. You should buy front and rear that were put on the same vehicle, because the designer would have designed them accordingly. Mix and match only if you know what you're doing.
