300E brake upgrade

300E brake upgrade
Ive got to replace teh badly worn out brakes on my 90 300E. Any cost effective upgrades, such as other factory models that will bolt up with larger brakes? Ive got to replace the calipers on teh rear adn the rotors on all 4 corners and pads on all 4 corners, so now would be the time to upgrade if necessary. I am also lookign into getting some 17" MB 460 wheels too.

89 300TE, and 68 280sel
upgrade to e420 brakes. I have the stainless steel brakelines i bought from Performance Products Mercedes Magazine. They are great brakelines and I used the Ate Blue racing fluid. No brake fade. I think once I wear out my sloted rotors, I'll upgrade to the e420 brakes calipers/rotors. TE's have that little bit more junk in the trunk that needs help slowing down.

well i found a bunch of drilled rotors on ebay for the e420, but i think they are the newer e420? Is there a difference, are teh rotors the same as my 300E? Would I need new Calipers? THere has to be a write up on this process somewhere, but i searched and cannot find it.......Any help guys?

I'm thinking of using the AMG brakes from a C55 on my 300CE. At this stage I have no idea what issues I will run into during the installation.

400E brakes are good but if you're going to upgrade your brakes - you might as well do 500E in the front. Since the 400E, E420 and 500E share the same rear brake set up.

400E front brake rotors are, IIRC, 295mm
Early 500E rotors are approx the same diameter, but may be different thickness. These are shared with the SL500.
Later 500E rotors are 320mm and are shared with the SL600
400E calipers *should* be a direct bolt on.
500E calipers will need a different dust shield.
One thing to watch when swapping calipers is whether they are a leading or trailing caliper. ie. whether they're located at the front of or back of the rotor. Because you want the bleed screw to be at the highest point, you can't just rotate the caliper to the back of the rotor. Furthermore, 4-pot (and more pot) calipers are usually directional. the pistons are different sizes according to whether they are leading pistons or trailing pistons.

some other issues encountered in various W201/W124/R129 brake swaps have been rotor interference with caliper, rotor interference with tierod ends, splash shield interference with rotor...
Your best bet is to talk to someone who has previsouly done the same swap as you want to do; but even that's no guarantee. ultimately you may haveto make a leap of faith.
Furthermore, rear brake swaps from W124 to R129 calipers (ie. 300E to 500E) may require you to change the rear carrier as well.

I put stock 300e's int eh rear with good EBC pads, im gettign the calipers from a 400E for like $40 ea. they only have 38k miles on them. I cant seem to find used 500E calipers for a decent price, its not going to be a track car but i figured 400E's woudl be sufficient for everyday driving and an upgrade from 300E's
