560SEC motor in a 300CE?

My 300CE got hit a while back. I thought of selling it, but when i recently sat in it i came up with a crazy idea. I wondered if a 560SEC engine will fit in to the car and possibly a manual tranny. Can anyone tell me the price of these mods or where to obtain the needed parts?

500E's
It can be done but will take someone with experience to do so. Your first look would be to get a M119 motor from a 500E/500SL/500SE instead of the 560 series simply because it has been done more often. There are conversions going on in both Michigan and SoCal right now of planting a 500V8 into the narrowbody 124. As for your second question, there have been a couple of chats about putting a manual tranny on the back of the 500 [or 560 motor] but it has not gone far.

There is suppose to be a meeting at the end of January between several of us at the Rolex 24 Hour of Daytona race about the very subject of mating a manual to the V8 so that part may change soon.

The W124 chassis was never designed to hold a V-8. As a result extensive modifications are needed. Which is not to say that it's impossible. The most complete W124 V-8 conversions are, of course, the AMG Hammer and the 500E.

The AMG Hammer used an M117 V-8 with AMG twincam heads and the 500E used a modified version of the M119.

500E's
You should not forget the 400, it has the same block as the 500E.

And note that the 500E does not really have a modified M119 in it [surprised me too]. The same block and heads that were used in the 500SL[129] and 500SE [140] are used in the 500E. Right now I have an M119 motor from a 500SE and an M119 from a 500E setting next to each other on engine stands and if I had not painted the stands different colors, I would not be able to tell them apart. Both are 93's and the part numbers on all the parts [pistons and heads included] are the same. The cams are different only by .xxn but spec the same.
