hi guys. im pretty much a newbie at this. had a look at the link V9 posted...the list did not include 18x8 ET 31, 18x9 ET 35 (AMGs).
Would they fit the car? and is the 18x9 with that offset too wide for the rears? can i get away with rolling the fenders?
i have a 1989 230E. Please help...

now, you could go look at the running gear thread and see if anyone is using that size and offset, and see if they are using a spacer or have rolled thier fenders or added spacers.

Just a reminder, everyone, that list is NOT complete and NOT comprehensive!!
The rear of a W124 can use wheels at least a half-inch wider than the fronts, but that is not shown in the list. And those wheels in the list wider than 8.5" are really for the 500E only (note the "wide wheelarch" comment).
In general on a standard (non-500E) W124, the max width possible without hassles is 8.0 front, 8.5 rear, with the proper offset & tire size (225 on a 7.5, 235 on an 8.0, 245 on a 8.5). Beyond that, you'll have clearance issues, especially on lowered cars, and/or when cornering hard, and it will be worse on 1990-up models with the wide side mouldings (will need to trim the wide moulding at the inside of the front fender).
The 18x8 and 18x9 wheels mentioned in the post above would require massive fender rolling (see the AMG docs I linked to above) and also the fender spacer kit shown in the photo above. If you're thinking about making these work by fitting skinny little narrow tires, forget it. Just get smaller wheels if you're going to use smaller tires. Unless you want to look like a ricer or BMW, with "stretched" tires, lol....

THANKS!!!!!!!! AMGDave.
That is a beautifull resource. By the way, the front spacers are pretty clear but what about the back fender spacing. Any opinions, ideas or experince.
I have AMG Monoblocks 17/8.5 in the rear and stock shocks and springs and there is some serious rubbing in the back. (On hard curves and bumps).
Please, if someone can help, I would appreciate it alot!!!!!
Thanks

Thanks AMGDave.
Well in the back the tires are 245 40 17. What rubbs is the side of the profile with the fender lip.A little but enough.
I saw the procedures for the back fender spacing but I think its not correctly explaind. This is because it tells you only to cut 200mm in a straight line, but what about the inner panel? !!!!its also attached!!!!
I thought that this fender spaceing would make the car look a little different than usuall. Im thinking of doing this but there is that problem with the back fender. What do you think.
Thanks

Yeah, I noticed the document was a little vague on exactly how to modify the rear fender! Strange, huh. I really am not sure what they're trying to do there. Your 245 tire isn't bad on the rear, I think with a proper fender roll it should work ok. The nicest unit I know of is the Eastwood tool, click here for more information on it... you might be able to rent one from a forum member? (I don't have one, sorry!)

Jajaja Wierd isnt it. Well thanks AMGDave. Im going to be rolling the fenders and then lowering the car. I think that will fix up the problem. Well about renting the tool... Im a little far from the US. I live in Europe so im going to have to build one. Looks easy, so no big deal about that.
About the rear fender spacing... I think the procedure should be rivised before anybody tries to do it that way (It dosnt look correct).
If anybody knows how to do it correctly, please post the procedures and some fotos. It will be very helpfull for alot of people.
Thanks

Don't post that in this thread. You already made a thread for it, and honestly there was no significant point to that either. This is to help people, not to try and be funny..

Are both the stop buffer and the travel limiter still available? Would these be beneficial in conjunction with H&R Sport Springs/Bilstein HD or Sport shocks or..?

lots of cars
People, just roll your fender. You'll need a 2" thick round piece of wood or a hammer handle, and a heat gun. You can do 18x9 on the rear with a +40 offset on 255/35/18s with rolled fenders. There's no massive fender rolling involved and we are not talking about pulling fenders either. If you don't want to do it with the wood handle, buy a eastwood fender roller.

With 45 offset the width should not be more than 7.5" or it will rub against the strut. You can remedy the high offset by installing spacers. For 8" width - 45 ET, 10mm spacer would put you close to the original spec, which IIRC is 7" width- 44 ET.

Enzo, my Benzo
I always forget, does 38 stick out further or less than 35? If more then prob not cause I run 18x8 et35 on a LOW suspension and mine are CLOSE. The back may fit, front most likely will be an issue.
