definitive wheel fitment guide for w124 pdf
I'm in the process of gathering parts for a very near purchase of a 1993 300CE, I owned a '89 300CE about 15-years ago and enjoyed it immensely.
I've spent the past month reading information on all things w124.. and my 54-y/o brain is now a little mushy. There's a ton of great information and experience on the net from w124 owners/gurus.
Question I have is:
Will a 17x7.5 ET37 from a w210 fit a w124? I know that the diameter and width will fit, My concern is the offset. Rolling the fenders if necessary wouldn't be a issue
I plan on installing H&R springs and Bilstein Sports (per the consensus of the posts that I've read).
Thank you for your input/response,
Chad & Janet

After reading this thread and many others over the years I finally changed out the stock wheels. I finally wore out the tires that were on the car so I could justify it.
I wanted a set of 16" Aero 1 s, but I have not been able to find any for a reasonable sum and the experiment I did was my first step to what I feel was determining the best setup for this car. So here are my specific thoughts.
My car is the E420 with M119 so I think I would adjust this if I had an E320 as I've had both. My thought for years is that I couldn't hook up the power the car has in the stock dimensions which I'm sure most would agree with. I am a car guy but I never thought I would run a staggered setup but after doing the math over and over and taking into consideration the way the car behaves and handles I think the ideal combo for everything is:
16" x 7.5
205 55r16 front
225 50r16 rear
I have eibachs on the car but I also ha e shims so it's balanced. This looks absolutely perfect. Everything in the wells. Handles perfect and hooks up much much better. It even compliments the way the car naturally feels. I can detect some weight difference and the 16 doesn't feel as scrappy and quick but the trade off is worth it. I want to get a pair of 15x7 so I can trade them out staggered as well to do direct comparisons..but the sidewall height on the 16s is just absolutely perfect from aesthetics to performance to comfort.
If I was running them on the e320 Id probably do 205s all around.

I have 2 types of set of Monoblocks II that I'm looking to purchase for my '92 300E project, which currently is stock height.
1st set are Fronts 17 x 7.5 ET35 / Rears are 17 x 8.5 ET30.
2nd set are Fronts 18 x 8 ET31 / Rears are 18 x 8 ET31
As for tires, I have read a combo for the staggered 17's as fronts 215/45/17 and rears 225/45/17 and 225/45/18 for the 18's.
My question is, which one should I do? I do plan on lowering the 300E, which is a '92, with H&R springs, bilstein shocks, but that's a 40% chance.
I do want a nice ride, yet changing its look from the 15 inch chromies that it currently rides one.
Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Age old wheel/tire questions and I've done them both.
Your tire size picks for the 17's are as close as you can get with the staggered set you mentioned.. good to go
But your 18" pick is too big, the 18's need 225/40
Your goals are not to rub, and stay as close to "Stock" tire diameter as possible, (which = 25" exactly)
Stock = 195/65 15 = 25"
215/45 17 = 24.6"
225/45 17 = 25"
.4” diff
225/45 18 = 25.7"
225/40 18 = 25"
That extra .7" will have you rubbing
Here is a very helpful link to compare wheel and tire combo's

I ran both identical sets your talking about on my 92 300CE, the 18's looked the best, but were pothole magnates, easily damaged
I ended going back to 17" with the bigger sidewalls, and eventually went back to 16's, which I believe are the best combination for these 124's
I have 3 piece OZ Aero I 16's on the 92 CE now, and 16" Aero I monoblocks on the 94 E420
The ride of the 16's are great on both cars, the wheels look awesome, and the suspensions are designed for these smaller wheels to begin with.
See pic's attached, my coupe with the 18 Mono II's, and 16 OZ Aero's, also, if you have a 92, you'll want Euro headlights, much brighter, and they look 1000% better than the USA POS.

Looks like 245/45R17 are what you need but they might rub.

This thread has a lot of setups that other forum members use

There's a lot of info on this on this forum, using the search function helps.
Normal W124s can't run as wide tyres as E500E. Also some people use fender spacers or have rolled fenders.

This is a fantastic post! Thank you to all the members who have contributed to this resource! I have a NOOB questions about rim sizes and offsets because the offset part still confuses the heck out of me. I have a 1995 W124 E250D wagon (Euro Import) and I am looking to add a set of Monoblock II's in either 17" or 18". I have come across multiple sets for sale but I am still nervous to purchase as I do not know if the offsets will work? I am going to post the specs from each set below and if someone could tell me if either set will work and what tire sizes I should purchase to avoid rubbing that would be great. I also am planning to lower the car at some point with H&R Springs and Bilstein Sports, as this seems to be the most logical setup.
Set #1:
Fronts - 18x8 ET31 (Tire Size - )
Rears - 18x8 ET47 (will these require spacers?) (Tire Size - )
Set #2
Fronts - 18x8 ET35 (Tire Size - )
Rears - 18x9 ET30 (Tire Size - )
Set#3
Fronts - 17x8 ET30 (Tire Size - )
Rears - 17x9 ET25 (Tire Size - )
Thanks in Advance,
Ryan
