Looking at getting a w124

Ok so I am looking into picking up a w124. Trying to get a 420E but a 300E would do. I have a few questions for you experienced w124 guys.

1. What are the problem spots I need to look for on the car?

2. Where is a good place online to order aftermarket parts(bodykits, suspension, lighting, etc.)?

Thanks for the help guys. Oh and also is the 420 quite a bit faster than the 300? I did a quick google search and it said that the 300 made 177hp and the 420 made 268, are those numbers right? Thanks again.

1995 E320 SE, 162,000 Miles (Sold)
...and the E320 makes 217 HP. I have the E320 and find its power more than adequate. If I wanted to drag race it then the 420 would be nice, too. Everyone on this site will tell you to look out for:

Wiring Harness for the engine
Oil leak at rear right corner of block and front right corner of block.

This link is to a guy who can elaborate. He's a fan of the car, too. Also, it seems to be a controversial subject but me dealer says that there is no need to check/change/adjust the timing chain {IF} the oil has been changed regularly.

1. Depending on the car, E420's typically have problems with the Engine Harness as the same goes for any M104 engine or M119. E320 specifically and so on. Mine went out recently but it hasn't caused any problems set so I'm waiting on that to fix sometime in the near future since it's annoying because it causes my AUX fan to go off occasionally and it sounds like a 747!

2. Good place to order parts would be The Wheel Supply.

www.thewheelsupply.com Ask for Sanders and tell him Chris with the W124 sent ya.

The E420 is definitely A LOT quicker than the 300E. I use to own a 300E until it got totalled in an accident.

'smoked..' you almost got yourself killed. That's why I didn't really step on it since it was 5pm on a weekday afternoon on Lincoln.

Thanks for all the help so far guys. With the wiring harness problem, what all needs to be done to fix it? Also how does that cost to fix? As for the aftermarket stuff, how much do the WALD bodykits cost? I didnt see any pricing on that site. I was also wondering what kind of suspension setup most of you guys are running.

Wiring harness $500-$1000, depending on where you get it. It's DIY, so don't spend money on labor!

Good to know. The place I am most likely getting the car from is a MB "dealer"/specialist and take extremely good car fo the cars they have there(good records too). I just hope they have one in black or silver.

Now a performance type question. I am planning on throwing on a catback exhaust(custom made from a local muffler shop) other than that I am not too sure what I should do. Maybe a hiflow cat, air filter, headers, or what? Help me out
