Skweeeky Brakes

Ok, so we all know this is a common euro trend, the skweeking brakes come into play after brake pads wear down. can someone help me to this.

I drive a '95 e320 and ive been hearing that screeching noise.

I've heard to stop this, you would have to change the break pads and also the brake sensor. is this correct?

Can someone give me a link to good reliable brake pads i can buy and also a step by step DIY of how to do this and tools needed to go about this.

OEM pads are suitable. If you don't want brake dust, try these http://www.formymercedes.com/porterfield.asp

1995 E320 SE, 162,000 Miles (Sold)
This is the same car I drive, and never any sqeaking. It has genuine MB pads from the dealer. I've read on this forum that you should only use genuine pads, but I've never tried the others so I can't say. The last link to the e-bay store doesn't have pads but he has some other parts you might need sometime.

knock yourself out: http://www.mercedesshop.com/Wikka/W124BrakePads I recommend ceramic pads since they produce little dust and no squeaking plus those porterfield's are costly.

Ceramics would generate more heat though, no?

Ive been running akebono ceramics for a year now and no squeek and I drive it hard every day. I did change the rotors at the same time with some nice balo. It stops on a dime after stopping once to warm them up. Ive been getting my stuff from either arizona autohaus or buymbparts check em out, both are cheap and quality reliable places.

Ok, so it seems everyone is suggesting the Ceramic ones.

Several more questions come to mind:
Are the e320 and the e420/e500 brakes interchangeable?
I notice that they are all about the same price, is it worth it?
Will it interfere with the cars ability?
Or are they basically the same brakes?

And i can find the procedure in the book? And one last question, haha. Is the brake sensor fine or would i have to change that too?

Ok disreguard this^^^ ahha.
Im gonna go with the Porterfield brakes, ive heard alot of Postitive about these exept for the fact that they make a noise ~5ft from braking distance
But i was reading that for Porterfield Brakes to last long and not squeek within 5ft of braking distance, you would need to buy some type of lubricant. where can i get this? Also lookin for some new sensors, only about 2 bux, i cant seem to find these on ForMyMercedes.com. im really loookin to install my brakes within this week, ive been running with the brake lights on for hundreds of miles. Also, i follow this procedure and i dont know what chassis number to chose:
http://www.formymercedes.com/porterfield.asp
>mercedes>next
>e320 Sedan>next

>Mercedes
1994-1995
E320 Sedan
To Chasis #862122
or
>Mercedes
1994-1995
E320 Sedan
From Chasis #862123

There's 2 chassis numbers to chose from, does anyone know where to find this?

Stay away from the ceramics as they will give less stopping power then the OEM pads in normal driving.
Ceramics will also wear your rotors down quickly.

You might want to look at Textar ( about $70.00 for all four wheels www.autopartsplace.com ) pads which are a high quality OEM/Performance product. Less dust then OEM and great stopping power.
Just installed Textar all around with Zimmerman drilled rotors on my 300CE

You're going to spend over $200.00 for brake pads !!!!
That's insane !!!!

I bought Textar pads and Zimmerman drilled rotors for all four wheels for $310.72 delivered. Both Textar and Zimmerman are OEM suppliers to MB.

For street driving and occasional competitive motorsports, you don't need kevlar or ceramic pads...can't get them hot enough on the street to give you a good grab

The calipers are not the same. The E420 has four piston brakes in the front. I believe the E500 is even more substantial. You can swap them into an E320.
