so My car has half of it original paint. I have been contemplating changing it to flat black. Has anyone ever done this before. I want a total black w124 300E. Thoughts or pics?

Oh man I soo wanna do that.
Get flat black paint. Get heavly smoked rear lights, dark tint windows and flat black rims with no chrome. Also, paint the front chrome grill.
That would be a stealth w124 !!
I say go for it !!

I was not around for the 60's. But this is what gave me the idea.
Does anyone know of a site like tire rack where you can choose different rims for the cr bu instead paint colors.

Matte finish would not be bad if you did it right, but you would have to do a Monochromatic paint job and do things such as painting the metal trim and grille/grille insert. Could be pretty badass, like a darth vader car. Tinted window and black rims too.

The plan I have in my head is all black, wheels, all chrome (except star on the trunk), tinted windows. I was thinking more of a batmobile. I have a full black interior, waiting to be installed. This is just an idea I am kicking around in my head to definite yet.
Also I am at work right now and will be for the next few weeks. All my pics are on my home computer. Does anyone have a good quality picture of the side of a 300E that I could use and have someone photshop flat black. I just dont want and go steal someone pics without permission.

You can use my car if you'd like, and it has some chrome wheels on it too.

I say not. There's a reason cars are painted with high gloss finishes. Imagine spending an afternoon at the carwash and after that there's no shine? It just doesn't look right. I would always be wanting to wax it.

Actually, many matte finishes, in nature, can have less surface tension than highly polished surfaces, a-la leaves and water drops in the morning dew. I had seen something on TV about scientists researching such finishes for different applications, including cars, but the mistique of shine for a car outweighed the dynamic benefits of the matte finish reducing need for washing and it's greater aerodynamic properties.

Mercedes benz 1991 300ce(RIP), now an 89 300ce
i saw this at the ny auto show yesterday and immediately thought of this thread. its a dodge viper and down the middle it was a matte finish, although very highly polished. its a bit hard to tell in the pictures though

I really like that look. I wonder if it's a combo of matte paint with clear coat or something. myfirstbenz, are you saying that matte paint is harder to clean?

Audi gave an option for the TT to be in primer, it was then polished to a shine and looked very similar to the above viper. Sick creative colors that actually do turn out good are always so cool to see.
