What would you do?
This is more of a general question, but, other than putting the twin turbo kit on the cabrio and changing the wheels, I'm basically done with it. I'm cleaning up the wifes 94 E320, it's lowered, wheels, stereo and eventually paint.
The question is what would you do for a new project? And keeping in mind that I have a spare 3.2 - 104 engine which when the turbo rebuild is put in the cabrio the current one in there will be yanked, internally changed to the the specs of the turbo unit but instead supercharged.
Here's my 3 choices.
1. W124 coupe modded with 90ish sl front end and wald kit. The above engine with manual transmission.
2. W201 Evolution II replica - same drivetrain as above
3. A Mid 60's sedan - above engine with auto trans, update interior, airbags. The old lead sled idea.
If I had my way and had the budget, I would do all 3. But for now I have to pick one.
What do you guys think?

I'm partial so I'd first choose the 300CE
Let me give you another to consider, a W202 C36 or C43....both are low production vehicles with the last of the "classic " look and feel...
Again partial as I own a 99 C43,but the C43 is a bargain and will run with a 500E...prices still reasonable

W124
I don't know where you're located or if you're in the US Joef, but here in California diesel cars are exempt from having to pass smog. I would find an old W124 diesel but rather than get a sedan I'd pick up a wagon. Have a machine shop go crazy on the motor.....larger forged pistons, port matching, valve job, head porting, custom crank and throw it into the diesel wagon with some laughing gas just for kicks. As far as looks would go I wouldn't do more than the typical lowering, some decent 17" stock wheels from another benz (make it look grocery getter), exhaust, different head/tail lights, some decent sound (no woofers). Just keep it clean and inconspicuous. Then bring it to some ricer event and blow the doors off of some punk in his scion.

i would definitely go with an old 60's or 70's sedan.
this afternoon i saw a 280SE 4.5 FLYING down the highway... i couldn't keep up with him, but the car looked mint and i can't remember being that jealous before. well, maybe i'm more jealous of CoastLine's 6.9, which I is the best car on mbworld period.

Very Slow Mercedes
Joef,
the 60's and 70's Mercedes are very nice to build,I have built many some for myself, some for others and they come out fairly cheaply and stop traffic even in Car crazy places like Beverly Hills..Years ago I built a 1972 250C cabriolet Burgundy with black top and had a set of custom wheels made for it,people went crazy for the car like you would not believe...I would like to treat myself to another but I am so busy with work I have no time to spend playing with my cars much...
when your Turbo W124 cabriolet is done you will have one of the rarest W124's aside from teh AMG that anyone can have so pass on the W124.
The only 60's Mercedes Benz I have yet to give a make over is the Fintail but I had a vision a few months back and once I catch up with work and Finish my other projects I will bring it to life..
You are in SoCAL I missed you guys in Pasadena, came late but I have 1000 ideas...I"ll let you use my Fintail idea if you want it....

Thanks for all the reply's guys. I think it's going to be a toss up between the Evo and the old school 60-70 car. There is a picture of a photoshopped EVO thats the insperation. Then on the weekend I saw and old benz put on the ground.

I like the idea with the wagon and I did consider it, but the wife swears she will never drive a wagon and my ML suites me more for work. But who knows!
