As expected the PS2s on the wagon are now TOAST - not due to the track day as previously anticipated (I roasted a set of 18" Toyos on the CLK)...but rather due to the fact that my alignment has been way out as a result of my lower control arms needing replacement.

Got the LCAs done, now need to decide on some rubber.

Michelin PS2
Michelin PE2 (pilot exalto)

Any other suggestions? I need 225/45-17 front and 245/40-17 rear.

Chappy's CLK is up in the air at my place. Yep, T1Rs...half-melted.

Brand new they seemed fine (I bought them from a fellow MBWorlder). I had them installed just a week prior to driving 8 hours to Louisiana. Nice and smooth on the highway...my intent on buying them as throwaways after the track event.

As mbenzman pointed out, I have already exhausted 50% of the tread at the Louisiana AMG Track Day last month. I'm glad I didn't spend the dough on PS2s and torture them...the ride home was a little less smooth, it part due to the excessive tire wear, but also due to shredding a lower control arm bushing on the track.

I haven't had very good luck with Yokos...I had them on my 300CE years ago and they were noisy and rode hard. I'm sure tire technology has changed since them. Which Yoko tire are you looking at?

yokohama advan s4

maybe bridgestone potenza 960's

I want something all season, not winter, that is quiet and somewhat sporty.

I may also look at toyos.. I have had good luck with them

My mom has yoko 420's and my bro has yoko 520's and they seem to be fine...

I don't want inexpensive tires, and I don't want to break the bank either. This is a $50K car... for its day... and putting cheap tires on it is stupid IMO

I would seriously consider michelins if the treadlife is good. My Toyos on my 280 are at 50% with tons of miles on them... I like that.

There were some Bridgestones on Tire rack that also got some 9.0+ review from a 500E owner. I need really good wet traction being in the NW.

No argument there. I'd like to get 20-25K miles from a set. My 15-inch Michelin MXV4s usually lasted 40K miles.

I was hoping for more like 45k miles and something that has great water channeling capabilities, so maybe a more aggressive tread tire. I'll see. I'll probably just buy them in the spring since my snow tires will be goin on soon.

Anybody change out their factory speakers? What have you done?

I don't need/want a subwoofer, just better sound from the factory head unit for now.

BigPete has done a wicked custom setup... I however have always changed my speakers. I run Infinity's 4.25" in the dash and back doors. I have an Alpine deck with an aux jack so I can plug in my laptop or ipod etc.

You also have door pods in your kombi. I used 6.5" speakers in my 400E IIRC but had to mod the speaker-pod with a dremmel to make them fit the metric opening.

myfirstbenz...look into Toyo T1R's...mine are GREAT and very well priced. tiredeals4less.com has a fairly exclusive great price for them and I know first hand after dealing with them.

+1 on the Toyo T1R's. Excellent tires.

I have Yokohama ES100's right now and I'll tell you one thing those definitely do NOT hold up in the rain. I'm due for a tire change soon - I'm thinking about biting the bullet, saving a little bit more and getting Michelin PS2's

For the difference in performance, the $$ is not worth it over the T1R's from what I've heard. Plus the tread is 10x cooler on the Toyos.

Do toyos Chris!

I had MB Quarts in my 300CE and was happy with them. I've been reading about the drop in replacement speakers made by Rainbow. Any thoughts?

Yeah, my bro's CE had MB Quarts... I'll get those when I pay off my student loan in the next year or so I am not familiar with the Rainbow brand. Anything beats the papercone factory loudspeakers. I would check to make sure they are running the same ohms.

That's really good for me then - One the tires I have right now since they are only "dry" tires I would hydroplane on the freeway if I went over 50MPH. Definitely a big problem since I commute to LA to and from OC frequently.

Looks like I'll be getting T1R's next.
