Retro Fit Navigation

Does anyone on the board have experience of retro fitting a navigation/audio head unit to a W124?

I am not looking for a modern unit, more one that would suit the character of the car like a Becker APS 30 or one of the units from a slightly later model - something single DIN sized for sure.

Can one of these units be fitted to a UK car without too many running into too many difficulties?

I have actually seen someone take out the factory stereo and the ash tray, and they were able to customize another mercedes navigation radio....
hopefully someone else can add to this, or point out where this was done

I found a post on another forum, looks like quite an easy installation.

I've pretty much been planning the same thing. I've finally decided to go with the Traffic Pro which is still available for about $ 600 from Becker. I believe it's probably the most straight forward in dash option available.

I understand that there's a write up on a W124 Traffic Pro retorfit in the MB Club magazine, but I haven't seen it. There is quite a bit of info available on it as it's used in several other cars, including newer Fords. They're readily available on e-Bay in the $300-400 range, but after having read info I think it's better to buy a new one with all the pieces and a warranty.

This may help you decide whether it's the right option for you: http://www.waycoolinc.com/z3/01/081501/becker.html
