1989 Turbo Technics AMG 300CE 3.6
I was thinking of adding a wide single-piece vent near the windscreen as used on later model MBs. I want to retain the wolf in sheep's clothing look when my car is finished.

A more rediculous thing you could do is make the hood a huge heat sink. Like weld aluminum fins down the hood. Now that will disapate the heat the most. I would suggest installing a scoop underneath to allow for flow through the upper vents to be maximized( thats if your car isn't lowered to much) almost a lip spoiler but flow doesn't go through any other heat transfer units. Just a thought from an engineer!
Intend to open up the grilles on the stock bumper/spoiler so there will be better air flow to the lower part of the engine compartment and intercooler.

I considered that, but be careful that you don't locate in a high pressure area which will pull in air instead of extract it !!!
Sheep's clothing tends to get blown off once you jump on it !!!
How are you coming along with your install ???

The short block is hopefully coming back from the machinist next week. Then my mechanic will do a dummy build to test valve clearances and send pistons away for fly cutting if necessary.
Once the long block is assembled, it'll be time for the turbo kit to be installed.
Then the Autronic needs to be wired up and tuned.
Still several weeks away yet.

I would do the diesel vents in the front side fenders left and right first then the semi circle cowl vent from a W210 in the hood. That is just my $0.02, you have such a nice MB keep it MB. Most car guys will pick up on the GM donor parts.

Diesel vents will do no good as they are designed as an air intake, and location would be blocked by my intake assembly which feeds from below the bumper.
Got to extract the heat that rises from the turbos and gets trap against the hood !!!!
Haven't looked at the W210 cowl vent, but any hole in the right place will help

I really liked the smooth contours on the 500 vents. I think they would look great, if placed in the opposite orientation following the lines of your hood by tapering to the rear and also pushing them back to where you have those black ones placed in your photo. The outer edges of the hood are tapered, so I think rectangular vents will not look as nice as vents that are tapered to match the shape of the hood.

Hmm, not sure if i would mess with the classic MB hood, but if I had the same problem as you do I would try to get more flow through the engine compartment instead of just venting the highest area. You might consider playing with ports on the fenders like:

What 2phast did wouldn't help as the opening up the headlight trim on the passenger side would be useless as the air filter box is right behind the headlight.
I intake cold air from below the front bumper.
Any side vents would not extract heat due to the configuration of the W124 engine bay.
I will proceed with the install of the 280Z vents on the high part of the hood.
This is the same location that Mosselman used in the early nineties on their Silver Arrow 300CE twin turbo install.
The passenger side vent will mount directly above the turbos in a low pressure area.
This is the only picture I could find of the Silver arrow, but the 280Z vents are almost identical in size and shape to what Willi Mosselman did in 1991 !!!

So for the M119 cars, would this be the ideal location for heat removal? I'm toying with headlight-panel vents for cooler intake, and something like the hood louvers for overall convection.....
