Very Slow Mercedes
I have E220 cab and 15-50 is okay, and you should use dexron III in the transmission or better yet use Redline or Amsoil synthetic..15-40 in summer is okay-even 20w50 is okay....The M111 engine does have the tight tolerances of the new engines that run 10w30 synthetic so don't even think about that...

i just think 15-50 is to thick specially for engine in good condition therefore i'll keep using 10w-40.

Transmission is funny as well, like castrol books recommend trazmax M and everyone else dextron II, this weekend i'll change it to dextron II. Dextron III is i believe more for 5 speed.

I only use synthetic lubricants, specifically Mobil 1. I would go with the 0w-40 that MB lists as an approved lubricant (225.1) and Mobil 1 ATF.

Start with what is recommended in your owners manual. Personally, I think either oil should work fine in your hot climate, so it's your preference.

I don't think you can get Dexron II anymore. Dexron III supercedes Dex II, is backward compatible, and should work fine in your transmission..

I have all books for this benz since it has been purchased (i am second owner) i could not find anywhere recommended lubricants....

You guys think brand of oil is important, i want best stuff for my benz but at the end they could be all the same, coz oil companies probably have independant test to make sure oil is up to standard.

Sorry, I had a bit of a brain fart. The lube recommendations are in a supplement called "Factory Approved Service Products", available free from Mercedes. I scanned the booklet ad it's now available online at: http://mywebpages.comcast.net/x0rr0/MBASP.pdf
