am i stupid for not taking this

ok so the other day i got a offer for my car. this guy off the street wanted to trade his 400e for my 260e i told him all the problem the car has and it would not be worth it. he cut me off and started to tell me all the work he had done rebuilt motor trans ETC etc he let me drive it.oh man this thing was a beast that V8 was making me cry in side. but some thing did not seem right. he was telling me that he loved his car and did not want to get rid of it but had to becuz of gas prices. i was so tempted but did not take the offer becuz i wanted to keep the 260 in the family. his car did not look much better then mine some of the leather was riped up and there was some nasty stuff on the out side of the car looked like some black crud. the motor was so nice looking and it drove like my car but with more power. after 2 hours he gave my car a jump start and he drove my car and liked it alot but in the end i could not let go of my car.did i do the right thing or was i playing it safe by not taking it. (sorry for spelling im sick right now )

I'd really be wary if this happened to me. The gas issue seems odd to me. I drive my '93 400E in a manner to make use of the power quite regularly, and I average about 22 MPG on my regular commuting, and have seen a couple tanks of pure highway hit 25. How much better could your 260 be to warrant the trade? Seems fishy, I'd do a LOT more research into his car before accepting anything like this.

D'Oh- I could a had a V8!

Well, then go back and find the guy because clearly he's just hanging out looking for whatever, get the vin to check if the car is stolen or rebuilt after a wreck or a swamped auto, check the receipts for all the work he said was done (talk is cheap), figure out how much more money it will take to keep the V8 tuned v. your S6, and then think some more about why this guy wants to trade even for a car that is worth more than your 2.6.

No

yah yah yah say what you want. i did not take the trade becuz i get 18 to 21 mpg. i have a big bore 6 in my car and he seemed creepy. his car was not tuned right it ran like my car witch is a bad thing. he was telling me he got 16 to 20 mpg witch is not that good. also i love my car and want to do the work my self. his car did not look much better then mine same bad paint motor had work done to it to keep it running but also the car is still under my dads name so i dont have a say in if i sell or trade the car. the in side of his car looked bad to the wood was worse then mine and some rips on the leather. i saw him today talking to my friend trying to trade for his 190e i think he is creepy and i dont trust him.i told my friend to trust him at all. he told me he got the vin number and was going to check it and tell me what it sez about the car.

no not stock from the bill or work list done to the car back when they rebuilt the motor for the car they had to bore it out becuz the walls where so messed up. they did not put the cylinder sleeve in but put a bigger piston in they tweeked some other things to make it so the car could run with the change but that was it. i fixed the timming on the car not to long ago and when i went to dino it over at the college(auto was happy they just got the new dino put in) the hp came out to 250 to 258 with some messing around under the hood and puting some better gas. the motor is f**ked up and dose not run the way it should the work done to the motor was only done to a point to make it run for 2 or 3 more years. i have 5 years tops with they way i drive this car befor i got to junk it or fix it. im looking at 3k to get it running like new for the motor and 2k for transmission and some minor stuff here and there but that will not matter seeing as i will not keep the motor or trans.

So what is this bore you speak of. I am actually thinking about this and have it in the works but what kind of pistons, rods, crank did you use to get to that power?

A big-ol' bore! Hogged out - .40 over for that displacement.

Ya need to advance the "timming".

Don't forget to "Dino" it, preferably with a Tyrannosaurus Rex.

just because you help others doesn't mean you should expect the same.
It's sad but that's the world we live in.

Why don't you go down to Walmart and buy a battery? It's probably like $50. Give some blood or something. You don't need the best battery they have, you live in California. It probably never gets below 40°. A lawnmower battery would crank it at that temp. Isn't your peace of mind and sanity worth that much?

I have a hard time believing the M103 can put out 250 HP without a turbo.

Find a way to snag a battery. The alternator and electrical system is under too much load constantly trying to charge. Long term driving may break something. The starter really hates chugging at low revs.

I know you're not in the cash, however, buying a starter or an alternator AND a battery will hurt.

Your friends that are providing jumps might chip in.
