yeap I had that one too, its a biach to replace but I still did it after 4 days rattling came back so pist that I just quit. It rattles because the bushing wears out pretty quick. I remember when I replace it took it out and for like 2 days never drove with it nothing happened but I put it back just in case.

maybe take out the bolt, and put a small rubber washer on the bolt and tighten it back up?

I had the same issue, I cut a 1/4" washer out of wood and put it on the bolt and tightened it up just enough. The rattling never has come back since and its deff been over 1k miles. Its called the engine shock damper if i remember correctly, I picked one up off of ebay for 25 bux shipped but after I saw how much of a ***** it would be to R&R I began the procrastination

Have you tried adjusting it? Looks like there's a tension adjustment.

Wood may work but wouldn't be my first choice. Adding rubber washers sounds like the deal. If disassembly presents a challenge you could cut the washers and slip over and tighten.

A blob of clear silicone may do the magic after cleaning the bugger with some brake cleaner. Ahhh, fast and dirty ... my favorite.

The part you've pointed out in the picture is a Belt-tensioner/damper. I would not mess with it and get it replaced and/or your belt checked out as well. It's a sensitive part on W124's and I had it replaced twice on my W124's...

i now drive a ford p71 i also own a 1988 ford f150 lariat
if my car rattles it means 3 things. 1 fan shroud came lose again and is hitting the damb belt or the fan its self .2 the door molding came lose again or my favored one is number 3.... that is a ***** to fix normally it means the frount light is trying to come lose again. other than those problems i dont have much wrong with my car any more. most are little 10 or 50$ parts that are easy to fix and rebuild... i hate haveing to take stuff out and take apart to fix or rebuild to get a little more time out of them..such as my alternator. works better but i still bit my lip hoping it would work im hand with some stuff but bad with others
