It probably has about as much chance of breaking down driving it around town as it does driving across the country. I would just change the oil, check battery connections and antifreeze. Also make sure the serpentine belt is good with no cracks, check hoses too, (these are the most likely things to break), and check all fluid levels and tire pressures. If it's running good now then it should be fine for the trip. I made a few 350 mile trips in mine with no incidents.

LUBE EVERYTHING! Theres a small chance one of your pumps or pulleys could freeze up. My smog pump froze up on the freeway and ripped my belt in 2 right along the middle. Power steering went out in the rain, eventually my battery died because the alternator wasnt getting power, and I was stuck on an uphill onramp at night, in the rain. Luckily it started after letting it sit for a minute...

Everything shdoug said...

For two weeks i had a job where i had to drive from long beach to santa barbara wich is like a 200 mile trip every day! Nothing went wrong with my car but i did all this before taking the job...

1. Check tires & tire pressure
2. Have a full size spare & check pressure
3. Small tune up change oil, air filter, and spark plugs
4. Check or replace the anti-freeze
5. Check the belt for any cracks
6. Check power steering and brake fluid
7. Take extra fuses and light bulbs
8. Take out all the crap you don't need from trunk
9. Take anything extra that you may need incase of an emergency.

Basically these cars are tanks but just prepare for the worst and hope for the best!

I would just double check the car everytime i stop at a gas station. Ohhh and always listen to your car...

I drive my car a ton, in my town (my school was a 45 min drive every day).

I'm just worried about major things like a bearing breaking with exessive driving at 80+ mph for a few hours at a time.

Well don't worry about bearings since i drove mine with bad rear bearings for 6 months and i don't think a 350mile trip is going to be that bad on it. I wouldn't drive it that fast but it depends on the road.

yeah...basically keep everything lubed up...

Where are you going? I wouldn't like to drive at night in open roads because there are a lot of animals that can cross it out of nowhere. I dunno...take a gps if u have one or a cell phone with one...

I'm sure the car would make it because my car is a 86 300e and it's been running after 3 car accidents with no major engine or transmission problems. I would also check the flex discs just to make sure they are not cracked.
