If you are going to the trouble to swap a motor like that, go with the 3.6L AMG 104 motor used in the C36. It has been done before.
Wow who would have thought someone else would know my car? lol yeah I bought it from Kent Bergsma, I work for him now too, must be the same one. For the record it also has 16v body kit Would the 3.6 bolt up to my 5-speed? And where could i even find one of these motors. I am finding out that anything AMG is pretty hard to come by.

Look familiar?

I worked for Kent for a few summers back in the day. I actually worked on that car when he first got it. Back windows weren't working, and it turned out the wires had broken from flexing too much. IIRC you have the 16 valve body kit minus the wheel arch lips.

I have driven that car and found that it had plenty of power as is, but I can understand how you would want more. If you were to do it, I would ask around in the w201 section since I am not sure if your tranny would bolt up to the 3.6L motor. Finding a 3.6 that is in fare shape might be an entirely different battle. Check out www.car-part.com

The 3.0L M103 has SOHC and 177hp. It was used in the 1986-1992 300E sedan and the 1988-1989 300CE coupe as well as the 1988-1992 300TE wagons.

In 1990, they installed a 3.0L M104 DOHC (217hp) in the 1990-1992 300CE (this motor was only installed in the coupes).
and R129

In 1993-1995, they installed the 3.2L M104 DOHC (217hp) in the sedan, wagon and coupe.

This also doesn't cover the 2.6L motors.....someone else can chime in with that info.
the 2.6 was used in the W460, W126, W124, W201. in the W126 it was only in the SWB models (260SE) and extremely rare.
the 3.0 was also used in the W201 but only in police/ dignitary escort models. so its also very very rare. but being that externally the 2.6 and 3.0 are the same its not a surprise.

erm, yes. and no

you can fit an M104 head (early) on a 103 block. youll need to do similar modifications as mercedes did.

the early 104 was a modified 103 block with a new twin cam head. read the details on the changes but were talking about something i read almost 16 years ago.

i wouldnt bother though.

lol....I was trying to avoid reposting the entire MB production models book - thus the disclaimer (U.S. models - W124).

I believe that is what Chappy listed as a 3.0L M104 DOHC (217hp) in the 1990-1992 300CE. Other differences to consider in a conversion is the fuel injection type and the ignition modules.

Correct. This engine was installed in the coupe only for the years listed above. One of the best cars I've owned.

Disclaimer: Speaking in terms of W124 here only for the U.S. Market.
