Can't believe it. Just got off the phone with Enrique and he said he found a bad hose on the intake manifold.

I thought I replaced them all !? Are there some hidden ones or something?

He said it runs nice. I think I gotta wait til saturday before I can get a ride to pick it up.

That hurt a bit that it was that "easy" a fix? I'm just glad that you are getting closer to having your issue resolved!

Congrats! Sounds like you finally got is figured out. You know, the guy with post #24 back in September on your original thread was on the right track. https://mbworld.org/forums/e-class-w124/209461-1988-300te-misfires-where-go-now.html
It would be interesting to see a picture of where that hidden hose was for future reference. You probably saved someone else a lot of headaches.

Ya. As I said before, everything pointed a vacuum leak....but I sprayed all sorts of solvents, used the O2 sensor and replaced the idle air hoses...even a guy on another forum said it wasn't vacuum related because of how the intake air flap under no condition would make the misfire any different...so, overall to no success.

When I go up to get the car on saturday I'll ask him where it was because I must have missed one or something. I swear I replaced all the idle air hoses with perfection.

He is also adjusting my transmission as he said he felt it shifted a little harder than it should have. $40...what the heck?

The guys awesome. I highly recommend him.

my bro had a similar issue with his CE, it too turned out to be a loose hose on the intake.

Bad running Benz? check 1. Cap and rotor 2. Wires and Plugs 3. OVP 4. Intake Hoses

Happy that you finally got it fixed....

That's why I was persistent in you trying to find someone who could smoke test your vehicle.

The W124 has a myriad of vacuum hoses which over time get extremely brittle as the engine heat bakes them.
They are a cause of the majority of problems with erratic engine idling and performance...

Enjoy it now !!!!

Ya. I called around local places and nobody could do it.

One thing though....sometimes when I turn a sharp right there is a really loud screeching noises and I told him, but he said unless he could replicate it, there wasn't anything he was gonna do....You guys have any ideas? It only does it maybe a couple times every few weeks, but its really loud and a little embarrassing, not to mention I get a little worried in case its a bearing and im on the freeway!!

Counting down the days til I get her bad
Oh shes getting a good ol' italian tune up on the way home

Just got her back

He said it was a hose on the idle control valve (we replaced them all so I have no idea???) and he adjusted my transmission too (modulating pressure).

Charged me $175 which is very reasonable!!

The misfire is 10x better, but when I got home I pulled the hood to take a better look and I can still hear the engine surging slightly.
For now, its so much better, but it seems he didn't adjust the mixture as it was set at 70% according my multimeter so I just set it back to 50% and I will test drive again.

Put on my new S600 grill so waiting for the hood pulley (i just painted it black too) to dry then I can go drive about and see if it made any difference. The idle is soooooooooooooo much smoother now though without a doubt!!

Car was pretty slow performance-wise when I drove it out of the shop so hopefully the adjusted mixture will fix that.

After driving it around for the past few hours -- problem still not resolved. It was close to butter smooth out of the shop, but after going around town for a bit, its definitely misfiring still. rpm's bop up and down, economy guage is still not at the left at idle....its in the middle.

I am almost convinced its gotta still be something vacuum related.

I am not doing anything else until I get this car to a smoke shop. I gotta do some major calls around to find someone.

The job done was nothing negative though apart from the loss of power. Misfire HAS improved, mpg have improved, my transmission shifts smoother and the gearstick no longer squeaks (he must have replaced the AT bushings without telling me?).

Yep. It was totally worth it.

Just gotta eliminate any possible vacuum related problem myself now.
On monday I'm gonna call the local mercedes dealer and see if they can, or know of someone who can do the smoke machine vacuum test.

Aww man,

I came back to check on your progress -- it looked so hopeful!

I'm still hunting down problems with my car. It seems like anything I do to it cures my misfire COMPLETELY -- for about 30 minutes. Then it's back to the same ol'. Actually, it's worse now. haha It's so bad that I don't even want to do anything custom to the car anymore for fear of wasting time and money on it.

Can hardly wait to see pics of your grille.

One step closer to a "GOD that took way too long but my benz is finally running right celabration BBQ" (you can use that name if you want, no royalties needed). Wish I was west coast so I could attend when you finally get this car right. Just don't go through all this and then sell it a week after you fix her. That would be a bit disheartening. Good luck with the smoke test.

Seriously. Right now I have a theory related to the EHA valve. About a year ago I remember adjusting it to help with the misfire back then....

....maybe...just maybe...if I adjust it back it may fix it?? Will find out in the next few days.

Well I was right about the EHA!! Half turn clockwise, or rich and I instantly got my power back. Misfire is still there. I'm gonna mark where I am and give it another half turn and see what happens.

Oh and here's my new S600 grill with the Euro's

If the smoke can't find a leak, then nothing will....

There have been so many posts, that I don't recall if you ever inspected the rubber boot between the air valve assembly and the throttle body.

They crack with age and can give intermittant vacuum leaks....

Good luck, you deserve it after all this time, cost and effort

I don't believe so, will that show up in the smoke test if its leak?

Fingers crossed that it finds a leak otherwise from there I have nothing to go off....
