1987 300e Amg

I just found and bought a 1987 300E 3.2 AMG - thought you'd like to see it. The 3.0 engine was rebuilt by AMG - bored and stroked, given light alloy pistons, a new crankshaft, hotter cam, polished/ported head, polished/ported intake, and a second air inlet. Went from stock 188hp to 245hp using a compression of 10.1 rather than 9.2.

The car has 66k miles on it and is mostly original - AMG suspension, AMG body kit, AMG exhaust. The tubing for the cold air kit is nonoriginal and the wheels are off a C36 AMG (original Hammer wheels are long gone). It does, however, have paperwork showing that it is an AMG sold from AMG-Central in Westmont, Illinois back in June of 1987.

When you first posted about purchasing it, I couldn't see any risk regardless in buying it it it's a keeper !!!

You did good, or rather GREAT !!!!...chance of a lifetime.

If you don't mind...what did you finally pay for it ???

And that's why I don't want to say what I paid for it. I'm not sure what to do with it; I wanted to drive it for awhile, fix some little things, and see how attached I get to it. It's extremely fun to drive, and I can take it a lot more places than I can take the SL AMG. This is a usable, driving AMG. Nice to have. Ultimately, I may talk myself out of keeping two AMGs.

The grill and star were originally painted body color; I'll get that set straight. I haven't decided if I will go with the Euros - I like them better, but I tend to leave AMGs like they were originally, and this car was originally a US version with those headlights. The other thing I really want are some Hammer wheels painted body color - that'll set it off a tad more than the current C36 wheels.

Whatever you paid, with that mialage and the amg tunning, it's hard to find one. I would defenetly keep it.

Congrats & good find.

Looks like you're putting together a nice little old school AMG collection. Now you should look out for a w123...

Had one - it was a 1984 280E AMG with an MB 5-speed manual with an AMG cam. That was the car that got this AMG thing started with me. I sold it to buy the 1983 SL AMG - seemed like a nice trade up at the time. I was right. But I kept my eyes open for other AMGs, then this 1987 popped up on my radar (here in town, even) and I thought it'd be nice to have a driver AMG around again. Besides, the 1987 w124 is a much better driver than the 1984 w123.

I hope I don't find another one; I barely have room the cars I currently own.

Does that cold air intake actually do anything? From what I understand, the airflow in the 124's was top notch and no aftermarkets could do better.

Thats a very clean and sexy car man! I'm so jealous!

if nothing else, it looks like it creates a second intake...i suppose that more air cant hurt

by the way, 245 for a 3.2 aint bad at all. its almost on par with high performance cars 20 years later. 250 and change hp out of a 3 liter and 300hp out of a 3.5 is pretty common now

The AMG M103-12V had the dual air intake as shown in POS pix....only thing is that the one hose is not stock

I was thinking the same thing. The extra intake hose runs right over the exhausts and engine, surely warming the air?

Nice car though. Looks like new.
