Well....To be honest, it could very well be because my car was rear-ended before I got it. Test fit yours just to be safe. It just seemed as if there was more than a slight difference in sizes.

i still don't see why a newer trunk lid wouldn't fit though...

I guess owning 5 cars makes it a little hard to concentrate on modifying just one vehicle at any given time. Besides I am still contemplating whether or not I want to use the 94 style or just add the filler panel and ducktail to my existing one for a more aggressive look ala ZorroAMG.
btw looking back at your posts on this thread you didnt add anything useful to this topic besides trying to make me look like I dont know what I am talking about. Or were you just working on your post count?

when you were looking back at my posts, you should have realized that my first one was just giving you a suggestion, and pointing out that everyone ELSE was saying it wouldn't fit, but gave no real reason, and so pointed out that you could actually help everyone by doing a test-fit (that you would have to do anyway), since you're the only one on here who has this trunk lid in his possession currently, and settle it once and for all.
as for useful posts and my post count, i think i've contributed and helped slightly more people though posts and pm's than you have thus far in your tenure on mbworld.
i'm not a d!ck, but i have no problem acting like one if you treat me like one.

I would love to know if the newer version trunk lid fits too. The old trunk lid is something I definitely would want to change if it were me. It is one of the things I really do prefer about the newer W124 cars, even though it doesn't seem to detract from Zorro's car or RBYCc's car. I already have the newer version on my 1995, but I would still really like to know for sure. Who knows, I may get the opportunity to buy an older 500E someday and want to switch to the newer trunk lid. I am OK with the older front hood, as long as the headlights are replaced with the Euro versions. If I had an older W124 I think I would also have to have the plastic side panels, rather than the rubber strips. I have read that that works fine. Painting the black bumper inserts to color match the bumpers also seems to work for that issue, but the trunk lid switch is still a question.
I think I am not really a dick either, even though I often play one on MBWorld.

There are a lot of people who monitor these boards for helpful tips and ideas on how to modify and maintain their w124's. I look forward to seeing bertis' new mods, zorro's pics, and you can always count on RBYCC to assist with his strong knowledge of these vehicles.
I dont have the time to post to every thread with an answer that has already been solved just to say "me too" or "sounds great". Keep in mind that there might be members out there looking to perform the same mod or repair and if I would've not posted anything on this topic it would've just died at "As far as obtaining the 94-95 style trunk that is not possible." When in fact the trunk does fit.
rivcal4life - I'm sorry the trunk didnt work for you and it probably does have something to do with the prior accident.
ZedStyle - no need for you to act like a d!ck. Maybe you thought that just because I have a "newbie" status with a join date of 2004 that I certainly did not know what I was talking about. Just because my post count is not as high as yours does not mean that you are wiser in the ways of the w124. It just means that you have more time to participate in these forums.
Oh by the way...for those still not sure; The trunk does fit, here are some pics of an 87 and an 89 that completed the mod -

Haha you cant say for certainty using one of Roman's pics. That guy is absolutely crazy, if he wanted to make it fit, he would. As for the other two posted pictures. THANKS for clearing things up guys. Hmm...Wonder what I would have to do to make one fit.

RIVCAL4LIFE - Just out of curiosity did the trunk you had include the hinges or just the deck lid? Could it be that your existing hinges were bent in the previous accident and that would be why the trunk lid would not line up? Did the trunk lid not line up on the top section or the back section?

The lid I tried from was a donor that actually was in a front end collision. I did not see the point in removing the entire hinge considering they looked the same. I did a quick fit in the yard it was in and it didnt close all the way so I didnt even take it home. I beleive the problem was actually in the latch more than anything, although it did look a little bit wider when placed next to one another.

i still think it would fit, i just wish someone who maybe had access to both types of lid would bust out a tape measure and see if the actual width and length are the same, and maybe compare the hinge arms on both. or would that be too obvious?
anyway, good luck with your trunk.

The new trunk is nice but that chrome strip on there is t3h gh3y.
Do the world a favor and paint it body color!
RBYCC, you should TOTALLY paint the spoiler and black strip, tail light surrounds and license plate frame red!!
Don't forget the bumpers while you're at it!
Oh and smoke and red tails FTW on your car.
