blower motor ahhhhh

ok so my room mates 88' 300e when he first got the car i was amazed at how well the motor worked. Today after a huge rainstorm in phoenix, the motor just stopped. When you push in the HVAC controls all I can hear is a vacuum leak from behind the glove box. No sound from the motor at all. i check all the fuses and even the external blower fuse. Anything i should check? Also in the even i have to change out the motor anyone have any directions on how to get to it?

This seems to be an epidemic today! Check relay N29. https://mbworld.org/forums/e-class-w124/229237-turn-off-automatic-headlamp-washers.html see post #11.

Not a dumb question- I was trying to figure that out myself. It's either under the blower motor or behind the center vents. The pic seems to indicate under the blower motor. It's not a fun job, but could be a lot worse. http://www.mercedesshop.com/Wikka/W124BlowerMotor

Right. Strange, but it shows it in a different location. Did you see the diagram? It looks like a picture of the blower compartment to me.

With the car running and the heater in the "on" position try to slightly wiggle the ignition key. Sometimes the elecrical contact in the ignition switch goes bad and failes to provide the juice for the blower relay/motor.

Here's the procedure. I've done it. If you follow all the steps it's not too bad but make sure you have time and good lighting.

Just the electrical part of it, about $30 part and a DIY labor.

I think it would be a relay, not a fuse. The fuse is probably in with the rest of the fuses but the relay location looks like it is behind the blower motor. When you pull the blower motor out, the regulator is underneath it. It has a red and a blue wire that connects to the motor. I don't recall seeing a relay when I did mine, but I was just trying to get it done so I didn't spend a lot of time gawking at it. I would pull out the blower and hook 12 volts to it. If it spins, I would replace the regulator. If it does not spin, I would replace the motor. Since the motor is right next to the outside air intake water probably went somewhere it shouldn't.

I would double check the fuses. If you read voltage from one end of the fuse to the other (across the fuse), it's blown. 0 volts is a good fuse, or it means there's no power to it.
