How much is 300CE worth?

Guys, I am thinking about getting a 1992MY 300CE, how much does it worth now? Vehicle is about 121K miles. what do you guys think? what kind of repair or maintenance would I be looking at with this kind of mileage or what to look out for in the future? thanks!

Mercedes benz 1991 300ce(RIP), now an 89 300ce
depends how well it was taken care of...121k is relatively low mileage. transmission shouldnt be problem if it wasnt abused and fluid was changed. if oil was changed regularly and the engine wasnt stressed significantly, it should be fine for another 180k miles. transmission tend to go anywhere between 180k to 300k miles. other than that, expect normal maintenance, plugs, fluids, filters etc. you might need to recharge your ac tho...depends on how much its been used and such. good luck and if you have any more info or pics...show us

by the way...id say 4500 for a CE like that.... i might be off tho

thanks, he is asking some where around $5500, I think it is a little over, $4500 will be a good price. How are the upholstery for the seats around those years, are they pretty durable? I know to reupholster will be costly.

Largely depends on service history. Does the car come with detailed service records? These cars get very expensive to keep running if they haven't been well maintained.

It also depends on the overall condition. How does the paint look? Interior?

Make sure to get an answer on whether the head gasket has been replaced. Are there any oil leaks, particularly from the head?

I would pay nothing for a poorly maintained CE with that mileage, but would pay up to 10k if it were pristine. So to me, it's 100% dependent on its condition.

He said he is got all the maintenance records and even AC is working and in good condition. I haven't seen it yet, once I have seen it, I'll let you guys know. I guess AC could be a thing that is costly to repair.

The problem with the AC is that it can work perfectly today and spring a leak in the evap tomorrow without warning. Mine did. The coils were not made very well or consistently, apparently. When you turn on the AC, check for a plasticky, band-aid like smell from the vents. That's R-134A oil leaking if you smell it. About $1500 or so to replace the evap coil.

Well maintained examples are holding their value. I agree with BigPete - condition and service history is the main factor.

How many owners?
Has the car ever been wrecked? Painted? Does it have rust?
What is not working on the car now?
Have the owner(s) maintained and repaired the car using quality parts?
How does the car drive?

Can you post any pictures of the car?

It says my coupe should have sold for $2,022 based on the input parameters. I got nearly three times that amount.

Were you looking at the private party number? Sounds like you got a premium.

You can't go by Edmunds or KBB to determine value of any older Merc, especially coupes or roadsters that are low mileage, pristine and have service history.
They are worth what someone is willing to pay.
Each vehicle is unique in itself, and the prices listed by various services are averages.

I had no problem last year insuring my 88 coupe, bought new, with 62K miles and with a recent twin turbo install for actual value of $25K through Grundy Insurance.
Underwriters wouldn't have issued the policy if they believed the value insured was excessive.

the good news is that most people do go off those sites, so as a buyer it works in your favor... what i used to do when sellers refused to budge on price is print out the kbb, edmunds, and nada, and take them to the seller and tell him i would pay an average of the three. if one of them was a little too high, then i would only take 2 printouts
usually worked, since it seemed 'fair' to the seller...
