Upgrading rear speakers
Guys,
I want to go ahead and upgrade the speakers in my '89 300e in the next few weeks and am looking for some feedback on the MB quart speakers.
From reading the archives it looks like I can squeeze 5.25's in the back without much cutting if any at all. To those of you that have upgraded the rear deck speakers. Which model of MB quart speaker did you choose and what are your thoughts on the speakers as far as mid-bass and highs? And for those of you that went the component route, where did you mount the tweeters? Pics of the speakers/install progress would be appreciated as well.
Thanks,
Sam

I love MB Quarts. Fantastic speakers. I think the biggest complaint about them is that the highs are a little sharp/harsh. Mid-bass is really a function of cone size. 5 1/4's should have solid mid bass.
I put 5 1/4 Focals in my rear dash and did have to do a minor amount of cutting. It was really easy. The only issue you might have with the rears is the fact that the speakers are held in with clips and not screws. some self-tapping screws will solve that, or the better solution would be to make your own speaker rings and glue them in place.

another brand which I think actually sounds better than MB Quart (which I LOVE btw) is A/D/S. Most people haven't heard of them, but they are superb...and a bit pricey.
Google A/D/S to learn more, but they are uber-nice, as are their amps and cross-overs.

Thanks for the input guys!
I looked at the A/D/S components and they look great. Their crossovers look top notch with the ability to adjust the phase shift of the tweeters as well as adjusting the dB's by +/-3dB.
One thing I was concerned with is the frequency range of the A/D/S model I was looking at : 90Hz - 22kHz
I looked at the Focals and they are in the same range however, MB Quart is indicating a frequency response of 58Hz - 32kHz.
Pete, looking at the high end of the spectrum I can understand why you feel that the MB Quarts are a little harsh. Do the MB quart mids handle the bass more effectively than both the more expensive A/D/S and Focal speakers? Could the MB quart specs be skewed favorably or are brands like A/D/S and Focal more conservative (under promise, over deliver) in terms of their specs?

Mercedes benz 1991 300ce(RIP), now an 89 300ce
all i know is, if you have a coupe, be careful taking it off. i broke mine while taking it off(it was brittle) and the coupe rear speaker covers are a real pain in the *** to find. there are a few clips holding it in, they should pop off pretty easily if you find em
