How to decide

So I have the option to keep my 88 260 which I have put about $2k in it and driven it 3500 miles ......or I can get my brothers 92 300SE which has had problems, but the big things fixed (ASR system, new brakes and rotors, new wire harness). I really want the W140 because its a great ride and everything is digital...what would you all take if you had the option?

You just answered the reason why I WOULDNT want the problematic W140. Then again, we all have or will come to the realization that owning an older benz means we must pay to play. It's up to you to decide which car you prefer because neither will be cheap to maintain.

Only W140 I'd take over my W124 is a S500 Coupe....but that's IMO.

yeah, see the thing is...he has driven his about 50k miles and put in about the same amount of money as I have driven mine 3500...so is mine just more problematic....you have to also remember, my w124 doesn't have power seats, and a lot of the other features....plus it kinda stalls so I haven't been driving it...I have a few days, just always nice to hear others opinions

Like I said....get it if you love it....you will spend money to maintain either of them....

I'd not take Rio's advice.

yeah, like zorro said. it's gonna cost you either way. If $ is your main concern, an older benz is not for you (i.e. get rid of it and buy yourself a nice reliable Japanese car). No shame in a Japanese car; it's just matter of what you personally value.

If $ isn't as much of an issue, or if you love the car enough that you're willing to make the financial sacrifices to maintain it, then buy the one that your gut tells you to buy.

I have no shame in Japanese cars...my Toyota SUV has been great...but that's the thing...the older Mercedes are just beautiful, and I don't want my brother's car to get traded in and him getting only $800 for it...if that's the case, I could just give him the $800 and keep it...would be having 3 cars to yourself too many?
