It's all about what tire brand and sidewall design you go for....try to stretch some michelins ps2 and i'll look pretty wierd....Try some falkens with a reinforced sidewall...or nitto 555
It's a PIA to get those tires over the rim hump in the middle that's why. They don't need that much work and can't give you a warranty on wear either...

You guys should read up on the proper procedures for running agressive sized wheels on a W124
http://www.2phast.com/500e/techdocs/...7x8.5_et30.pdf
Take into consideration that is for for cars not even lowered.

I wasn't here for a week or two and now there is a new fad. Please help me understand exactly what it is. Is the idea to stretch a tire that is too small and reveal the rim edges? I know guys were stretching smaller tires to fit bigger wheels for quite a while, but it looks like now the idea has morphed into a new effort to expose the rim edges.
It seems a little wacky to me. It has to be a southwest coast thing. I can't imagine driving with those wheel and tire combinations on northeastern roads that freeze and thaw to yield all kinds of imperfections.

as for driving in the northeast region i have been doing it for almost 7 years, and had no issues at all, even thou NYC has the worst roads in America
these are my previous cars the Silver E30 had 16X10 rear with 225/40 and the 5 series had 19X11 rear with 265/30

I would NOT stretch 215's on a 9, currently I have 215's stretched on a 8.5 and two issues I've encountered.
1) NO rim protection what so ever
2) Leaves a bigger wheel gap that cannot be compensated with pads.
The only way to get rid of the ugly wheel gap is to switch to 225's roll the fenders and install fender spacers.

Albert, did you not look at the PDF I previously posted??? It shows everything necessary to install wider wheels on a W124 chassis car. This includes;
Installing fender/bumper spacers
Installing spring limiters
Hammering out a small area of the inner fender well
Rolling fender lips
Trimming rear bumper lip
Link is below
