Will these wheels fit and what do ya think?
A1294010102, offset is 31mm, size is 8JX18
I'm pretty sure the fronts would fit right? Maybe need a spacer as the offset is 31mm....but for the rear? Would it require any rolling?
You guys think 18's might be too big? Right now my wheels at 16's.
Would 17's be a better choice for both size and ride comfort?

Spacer, no. Optimum offset is 35mm, so your pretty close at 31mm, a spacer would push the wheel/tire out towards the fender, you definately don't want that.
That AMG is the same fitament used on the E55. Rolling of the fender lips will be necessary. If you don't lower your car, you will have rubbing problems. It seems the common fix that some people employ is to stretch undersized tires onto the rim and then lower their car excessively. Those methods allow you to fit the larger diamater wheels, but at the cost of ride quality and tire longevity.

I don't want to lower my car right now...so what would you recommend size-wise then? I would like to in the future, but only a little bit to make it more flush. The front is higher than it should be.

But will they rub if I don't lower the car?
I'm considering just picking them up one at a time and building a collection then lowering at a later date.
It should allow me to touch up any imperfections.

I'll start keeping my eyes peeled for deals and grab em as I go along.
In the end I'll sell the ones I have right now for like $250 or something...the chrome is peeling.

I beg to differ, the wheels will rub, Albert runs an excessive amount of negative camber and a smaller than recommended tire stretched onto the wheel, hence why he gets away with running such wide wheels.
Optimum oversize for a W124 is 17x7.5" 35mm offset, with a proper sized tire. If you only lower your vehicle 1 to 1.5", then you won't have to deal with excessive tire wear or poor ride quality.
I ran 18x8 31mm offset and 18x9" wheels on my C36, which was lowered about 1.5". I had rubbing on the right front (C36 comes with the fender lips rolled), so I had to roll about 2" of fender lip and trim some of the front bumper lip to eliminate the rubbing.
On that same note, I also ran 17x8" 35mm offset wheels on my 300e, lowered about 2" with a 215/40/17 tire. These also rubbed and required rolling of the fender lip. At full lock, the tires rubbed the inner fender, which is something that can be corrected with a mallet and a little pounding.
I previously posted this in another thread, which I suspect no one bothered to read, but its a technical document on what needs to be done to PROPERLY fit wider wheels onto the W124 chassis.

2Phast, I for one appreciate your repeating this,
I run et31 18x8s now, but won't have the fenders rolled for another week or two, so all I know is...they rub on my Sportline PRE - rolled fenders.

lots of cars
Rubbing is different on every car and every set up. Tire size has a lot to do with it. Berti is not rubbing because he's running on 215s and that angles the sidewall a lot.
2Phast - I don't think anyone here wants or can cut their quarter panels. I'm going to cut the inner fenders to be able to fit 255s in the rear but it's going to take a while...
How about we make a list of what's been tested and worked...

I don't really pay attention to those threads but i'm talking about a chart or pdf file....
something more like this....so there won't be a repost of 18x8 35mm offset like 5 times...
