Damn i don't want to be a noob, but I'm really pleading for some help here because I cant seem to find the information I'm looking for.

My girlfriend bought a 1993 300e 2.8L, and it has the newer looking motor in it.

I thought the changeover was in 1994 when they changed the body style a bit. Was 93 a changeover year?

I'm mostly concerned as my mechanic claims my wiring harness is done for, and need to find a somewhat cheaper route to replacing it. I'm not much in the position to buy a new one for $900 so i was considering buying a core and refurbishing it.

I need to know what harness will be needed, and whether or not there are certain years that are interchangeable.

Where my best bet is to find a partout or to obtain a core?

Someone referred me to find an "upgraded" harness, im not sure what was meant by that.

And if all else is not possible, where is the best place to buy a replacement harness?

I would appreciate all help and hoping to get it back on the road.

Late 1993.

The original harness (1993-1996) used a cheap wire which breaks down with heat (Mercedes will tell you it's to make it biodegradable but my theory is it was a cost down that went wrong).
No point trying to find a used one since it will probably have the same problem. Bite the bullet and get a new harness.

not sure if anyone answered, but yes, 93 was a new engine. 94 is a completely different beast.

300E a couple 1994 w124wagon E320 Wagon/,1971MGB Track/Rally, MG Midget Autocross ,2000 E320 wagon.
For models that interchange

harnesses call or email aurora auto wrecking in seattle or on the web. They have a bunch of mb's and also the interchange book

http://www.mercedesshop.com/Wikka/M104WireHarness
If a 96 will interchange you may luck out and find an upgraded harness in a wrecked car.
It sounds like you don't trust your mechanic,if you don't look at the harness yourself if it looks mummified and the wires are frayed and the insulation is flaking off you have a problem. It is a diy job so find a harness and do it
Ignition problems?
