Exclamation help dead car!

so i pulled into a parking spot today, ran into a convenience store, came out. car wont start. i figured out the problem, the throttle body doesnt appear to be opening. i can get the car to start if i manually open the body to let air in then floor it. then it dies when i take my foot off. is my throttle body dead? is the thottle body opened mechanically or electronically? pulling on the throttle cable doesnt seem to open it. and when i floor it the body opens up a little bit. i suppose that explains my crappy gas mileage recently, im prolly running rich from a dying throttle body. please help! i cant leave my car in that spot for much longer

If you have ASD, (I can't remember if that's what it's called, but it controls the slip ) then it has an electronic throttle actuator. If not, it's mechanical. Most likely yours is electronic if it doesn't open when you touch the accelerator. I'm not sure how those worked on the pre '93.

well i got the car home. had 5 friends push it out of a spot. get it onto a main road and attempt my way. failed a few times. then someone had the idea of holding it opening with taped quarters. it worked, then i had to drop it into drive at like 4000rpm either way the car is home now i need to figure out why my throttle body is messed up.

by the way, i dont think its ASD. a friend of mine who was trying to figure out the problem said the throttle body feels like its vacuum operated tho. if thats true...then vacuum leak maybe?

Are you talking about the fuel distributor plunger (air flow sensor) or the throttle plate (butterfly) that won't open? If the throttle plate won't open that's the throttle actuator associated with the ASD control. Otherwise, fuel distributor problem.
