Difference between ECU's??
I am going to take apart my ECU and check the connections but I would be comfortable having a backup ECU in case something goes wrong -- or better yet, just plug the 2nd one in and see if it makes any difference....
I checked ebay and most of them are close in the part numbers, but not the same
I am looking for PN: 0 280 800 304
I see ones that are "x xxx xxx 400" " "...212" "...444" "...320".
Will any of them work or do I need to make sure I get exactly the same one?
(We must consider the fact that I do not know with certainty that I even have the correct ECU in mine!!)...so on that note -- any way to double check I have the correct ECU in mine?

Personally i would double check with a dealership parts guy if you can, they can pull you vehicle up by vin and see what goes in your vehicle. Plus be able to tell if your ecu was superseaded (sp?) to a new part number which is usually the last number on the part number if i'm not mistaken.

Did you ever find out about this? I have several different ECUs for my 89 300E 3.0L. The one that came with it when I bought it used was the xx304 part number. I have swapped out a couple of different ones to see if they made any difference, but i almost can't tell. I would like to find out what the differences are to the part numbers.
