I will probably do it when the time comes since they way I think about it is ... I spend about $1K in the Satin Black finish and typically a good and brand new paint job would cost $2-3K and if it looked bad I can always get another paint job with my hook up and still be within that price range... I don't know if that makes sense or not...

Wow, you have a friend (or friends) who will do a good quality paint job for $1k? Those are some good friends.

Well if you think about it ... total cost of the paint job would technically be more since my W124 is my only car and I would be in a rental for 2-4 weeks? lol

lots of cars
What you can do is to re-paint the car with a black basecoat and just put a satin clear over it. If you don't like the way it looks you can have it sanded it down and put a gloss clear and i'll look black again. If you find a good body guy who does rat rods he might have the best advice to give you for a long lasting satin black paint job...

I found this today...I would love to turn my car into this...i already have the all black tail light and all black wheels...but i don't know on the paint yet..

I already said that....

I wonder if you tried it (pick a GOOD basecoat black, like 040 OEM) and if it didn't look good, could they just re-clear it with glossy?

Also, think about leaving the roof gloss black and just paint the rest of it satin.

Another option is to do it yourself with duplicolor black car paint and clear.

i dont think 124's were made to be flat black because most cars that are flat black are more performance cars and although 124s are pretty fast id say there more classy lookin especially yours so thats my thought but you can do whatever just do it the right way if you do.

Who said flat black was for performance cars only? I know for a fact that ANY car can be painted matte/flat black and look decent with the proper cosmetic modifications.

I've thought about this myself on my 240 s13.

Flat black FTW

Just do it chris d pham - I would like to see a 124 in this finish & it would certainly be unique.

The Brabus cars are the best I have seen in this type of finish & they are actually coated top to tail in a plastic film to achieve the flat/satin look. Which I have been told is very robust.
