Performance Rotors and Pads - opinions?

I was looking at getting some new rotors and pads.

Any opinions on Power Slot Power Slot Rotor with Akebono Euro Ceramic Pads ?

they sell these on tirerack.com
Rotors: http://www.tirerack.com/brakes/brake...ar=&perfCode=S

Pads: http://www.tirerack.com/brakes/brake...ar=&perfCode=P

I was actually looking at Brembo slotted or cross-drilled rotors with Hawk HPS pads, but it doesn't look like they make them for a 1990 300E.

Or

brembo slotted cryo treated by diversified cryo with akebono pads.
Stay away from drilled, dimpled is fine.Drilled you don't need.
have fun,bed them in properly, and torque the rims correctly so you don't warp those new rotors.

Chris,
I have PORTERFIELD R4-S pads
but what is Cyro-treated ? What does it do?
Can I do that to my OEM MB rotors ?

also, remember I was looking for that set of "carbon-fiber look" B-Pillars from the C32 and there were only like 7 in the whole world.
Did those ever come in to take a look at?
I was interested in purchasing them, but never got an answer as to whether they came in or not.

LMK...

diversified cryo

treats them or you can buy already done from frozen brake
The ones om one of my racing MG's are several seasons old and still mirror smooth, brembo slotted and dimpled.
It makes the metal much harder and more uniform molecular structure.
Worth it if you track your car or like to go years between brake rotor changes.

Hey Carlos!

I don't remember the company info since I lost it but Mark Cummins knows of the company. I think its called FrozenRotors or something. I haven't done it personally but I heard it can make your rotors last 2-3 times longer (obviously depending on your driving style). Resist cracking, warping and fading which is a pro with our cars especially in an performance aspect. I will do this soon since my rotors are warped and I haven't got a chance to purchasing a set though oh and they also look cool LOL

oh and Carlos I do remember those coming in since they were back ordered like no joke but remember the prices on those!?! Ricidulous

For my brakes I need as good as OEM and low dust, but i don't want to sacrifice stopping power. I like a pad that has some bite.

So, for those who are using Porterfield R4-S, how's the stopping power? Low dust too?

Anyone know of any sites that will ship to Canada?

Yeah, I kinda still want 'em though.
Do you remember if it was the right texture (not the glossy black) but the wanna-be CF looking ones ???

Any chance those are still sitting at HOI waiting for me ?

I did not see anything coming up in the search for pads for my '93 ce on the porterfield site.

I need to order pads and probably rotors, but would prefer to use something that is a little high performance then OEM, but not pay more then OEM. I know that is asking a bit much.

You can't expect better performance if you're not willing to pay the price so to speak...

Anyways, for W124 parts from Porterfield you need to call in or email them.

I understand that all to well. But in the past I have been able to find high performances parts for my vehicles that are the same price or a tad less then OEM, as in many cases because it does not have the company symbol on it, there is a drop off in price.

Thanks for your input guys.

I ordered some Porterfield R4-S pads and I am looking at getting Zimmerman cross-drilled rotors. Apparently, Zimmermans are supposed to be good, as they are not drilled after the fact, but the holes are cast, therefore the rotors won't weaken as easily (less chance of cracking and warping).

People are recommending ceramic pads with Zimmermans. Would these Porterfield R4-S work good too, with this rotor? And what type of pad material are Porterfield R4-S? Are they a kevlar pad?

Porterfield R4-S pads uses a carbon kevlar street & track compound with what they say a built-in ceramic insulator.

Zimmermann are very good as well - IMO I think they are up there with Brembo rotors.

I got the Porterfield R4-S pads, and on your suggestions I am going to go with Cryo treated rotors.

Tirerack sells a Power Alloy Cryo-Treated Rotor - any good?

http://www.tirerack.com/brakes/brake...ar=&perfCode=S

or I can contact Frozen brake and get a quote from them.
I don't know if slotted one that Tirerack sells for $114 is better than the cryo OEM treated one that Frozenbrake.com will sell.

what do you guys think?

Also would these Porterfield R4-S pads work with an OEM rotor (non-cryo treated) would the pads be too hard for the OEM rotor and they will start making vibration and shudder noises? That is what happened to me when I had EBC greenstuff pads with stock OEM rotors installed by MB.

more uniform molecular structure
There is no molecular structure. Metals/alloys are not molecular. Advertising claim.

I too have been claiming shenanigans with cryotreatment of non-quench-and-tempered steel. I now have to change my position on the subject. I recently read an article in one of my trade journals that says there is something true about cryotreating brake rotors that can and will give 2-3 times more life out of the rotor. It's a peer-reviewed article and the results were from controlled studies. The metallurgical mechanism that provides this longer life is not yet understood, but the effect is real.

The question now is, "Why don't all brake rotor manufacturers use this cryotreatment process?"
