Possible bad window motor?

So I noticed my window going up a little slower, and it shook a little bit. I didn't really thing too much about it until I rolled it up all the way and made a loud clunk noise. And now, everytime I roll it back up to the top, it makes a repeating clunking noise, kinda like it's stripping or something? Any ideas?

yup, I hear two things.

First, the most obvious thing is the clunking. It's exactly what you think- a tooth has stripped on the linkage that attaches to the motor. You probably need a new regulator:

I have looked inside my door panel and frankly this thing looks like a major PITA to replace. Probably worth paying to get it done for you.

Second, you say the window rolls up very slowly. that sounds to me like a motor issue... But maybe you should just start with the regulator to see if that resolves the issue... if not, you're in for a new motor as well...

Thanks for the reply. I get all my labor done for free, as long as I pay for the part..I talked to my mechanic a little bit ago and he said also that it could be that little plastic tooth. So I'm hoping it's that, and not some major issue.

Remove the door panel and check it out. Replacing the window regulator ain't all that bad...you get cut up if you're not careful though.

I had the same thing happened to me 6 or 7 months ago. And it was the regulator. As bigpete and battlecat already stated.. its not hard, just time consuming. There is a DIY somewhere on mercedeshop forum. One thing to lookout for when you're replacing the regulator is your window tint! (you could scratch them while trying to remove the regulator!) also if you have an earlier model w124 the regulator could be riveted in.

I just replaced my window regulator last weekend. I bought it from here:

http://www.thepartsbin.com/catalog/?...294965602+9331

It was under $50 w/S&H. Took me about 1 hr. Also, get a can of silicone spray and lubricate the rubber channel that the glass slides in, it will help a lot.

At first just remove the door panel and grease plastic guides.

Well, after three hours of labor, I figured out 5 teeth were stripped off the regulator gear. $175 bought me a new one, and now it's back to new!

I just wish it woulda been a little cheaper...

Yeah I just replaced my rear one today. Not a fun job with the tight spaces, but not exactly hard either. I did scratch my tint just a little, but I really didnt see any way around it. Oh well.

Same case with my tint...I have a little scratch towards the top.
I forgot to take the steel spring clips off door when I was handling the window up and down...
