Spring Perch Failure on 1995 E320

My front passenger side spring perch just let go, the spring fell to the ground, my front lower air damn cracked, and my tire was jammed under the fender. It wasn't pretty. Fortunately I wasn't going fast when it happened. I was towed to my Indy and he said it isn't uncommon for a Benz. They said they have done welding like this before and would get back to me.

It was a rust thing, I guess, since I could clearly see rusty torn metal up under the car where the perch ripped off. I will let you guys know how much it costs to get fixed.

Just a word to the wise, I think everyone should take a close look at their spring perches if the live in an area where there is winter snow and salt.

lots of cars
Wow, that's pretty dangerous. I've never heard of that here in so cal but i guess it's because we don't have ice or rain. Make sure they weld in a metal piece for extra support.

I learned long ago to rustproof my winter cars. The trouble and expense to rustproof up front pays back greatly in dividends.

We had this fixed on my son's W202 a couple months ago. Part was $15 at the dealer, I paid a fellow $200 to remove the old one, and weld in the new one and coat it with stuff. It let go as he was pulling out of his HS parking lot. The spring flew out and rolled across the street! He was able to turn around and get it back in the school lot, but it scared the crap out of him. From what I understand, it's not an uncommon failure on W210s. I've read of a few W202s including ours, but this is only the second W124 failure I've seen. As these cars age, we'll likely see more of them. I'm certain that I'll lose one eventually since I'm never getting out of my 400E!

AMG
Common on the W210 - NOT on the W124.
