They're affordable to import from the US.

I am not an expert on importing, but those cars are brought in with minor modifications. The Canadian government has a list of admissable vehicles. MB Canada is not likely to give you the straight goods. A guy in Vancouver brought in 10 W140's last year, from Japan. SL's and W124 wagons are flooding in from the 'States and Japan.

Sorry I forgot about the 15 year rule, you can bring it in if it is over 15 years old. If I was going to import one, I would import it from Japan as generally I'll get a lower mileage one.

Lower mileage and likely, better maintained.

theres one in my area for about 15000$ cdn, kinda high mileage tho. Japan might have some nice 500Es to import. Example is a site like this http://www.garagecurrent.com

Those cars there are SO immaculate...

You gotta be really careful with 500's. I paid 15k for mine and its in awesome shape, but I have put atleast 5k worth of parts in it in the past 18months/20k miles it had 120k on it when I got it. These cars need $$$$ from about 100k to 150k. I still will never sell it, small price to pay. Its at least a w140 500 in w124 clothing for sure, not quite a v12 w140....

^^ that's what's stalling me from getting a 500e or R129 500 right now. I can definitely afford one as a 2nd car but if they start breaking I wouldn't be smiling.

Read the 500E forums you'd think the 119 motor is a troubled engine - lots and lots of stories of $8-10k of engine work. Yet E420s without ASR are esentially bulletproof. People just drive the crap out of the 500s, plus they all have ASR.

The MB Canada site on imports is borderline fraud. Does no one call them on it?

Its not the engine, its everything around it. Like the 600's, engine is great, much better than a m117 mechanically, no valve guides wearing out all the time etc. About the only mechanical thing I know of is you have to replace (update) a pressure valve in the oil filter housing on the early ones. But the MAF is like 1200$, harness is $$, tandem pump for P/S and SLS is pain to get off and rebuild. ASR doesn't really have anything to do with it either, the pump is pretty cheap and my car got one under warranty I think at about 50k but thats all I have heard about it. Its really just a smaller ABS unit. If you mean you can't turn it off, you can, with a little work, or just unplug a wheel sensor....

The actual motor is a mammoth. It can and does survive people driving the stink out of them. They like it that way, you have to keep the carbon from building up My car always feels best after a long high speed highway run. Most of us benz owners would break the hell out of a normal car, I mean just destroy it. I bet most of the 500's out there that have been even moderately maintained are still making over 300 HP at the crank. Its really what you would expect from a pretty much all forged motor with Alu-Sil (or Nicka-Sil I can't ever remember which) lining, the rings should never really wear out if you do oil changes. The m119 is a $44,000 LONG block hahaha. When I did my timing chain it totally changed how I thought about MB motors. The thing was a monster, it made me want to build a Cobra kit car with a M120 in it.

K, I am done haha

Never have I ever thought the M119 was a troubled motor because in all the W124, W140, R129, W210 etc. Forums. I have honestly not seen one thread regarding any kind of engine issues with cars sporting the M119. Not one thread about any mechanical mishaps unlike the M116/M117 V8 where there's always a thread regarding the timing chain or any valvetrain issues. So naturally I figured that the M119 is one hell of a motor.
