1993 300E Starving For Fuel?

hi eveyone. my friend asked me to post this in hopes of getting some
help.

he has a 1993 300E with the 2.7l engine. the car has 100k on it.
sporadically the car's dash warning lights will come on and the car
will lose power. when this happens he pulls the car to the side
of the road and shuts it down. after letting the car sit for a
minute the car starts up and runs normal....until the next episode.

does anyone have any idea where the trouble/malfunction
is originating?

any help would be greatly appreciated.

Overvoltage Protection Relay (OVP) 95% sure. Sounds exactly the symptoms they usually cause. If he hasn't replaced it yet, it's time!

You're welcome. Had the same problems with my 300TE when I first bought it. I did not lose power, but all the warning lights would come on and it would stall randomly.

It should be right next to the battery on the ride hand side. Check the fuses on top first, then replace the unit. If the fuses look bad, then try just replacing them first before the whole unit. Also give the unit a shake -- it should not rattle at all. A new one is roughly $50-$60.

.... Well I guess I was losing power when the engine shut off midway down the road

If that doesn't resolve it then let us know. My next thought would be the voltage regulator attached to the alternator.
