I think you have to replace the struts.

Thanks.

It can be done by replacing the struts with non SLS type and plugging the feeds to
the resevoir canisters, but i would advise against it. the car can be lowered without
disabling the SLS, but again i would advise against it. Get the SLS working properly.

I hope this does not mean that a novice is cutting up another rare, perfectly-preserved 500!!!

What happened to the other tell 500's? Did you mod them and not like the result?
Did you not want to maintain them?
Did you crash them?

For someone who has owned many Benzes, you seem to know little - most difficult and expensive way to lower it. Not to mention, the least easily reversed option. When you are "finished" with the car, you will have decreased it's value and significance. Another one for the scapheap.
Oh, well, that's just my opinion. It's your car.

Post pics - before shots for now, anyway.

Agreed, removing SLS is not really a good idea, there are many many threads on this. Basically, the SLS allows you to lower the car to the point that it is still considered safe. After a certain point you have no suspension travel and your suspension geometry reverses itself so it doesn't work properly (LCA at ball joint is higher than on the subframe....) and can be very dangerous. You can adjust the SLS so that its not even active....try that first. Its really an awesome system to have in place, I love being able to load the car up and not have to sacrafice all that handling because the back end is draging...

My first 500E I had was burned in front of my house by an arsenist..It was modded with AMG 2-piece SL wheels, H&R springs, chip exhaust the whole deal...its been to many meets back in 2000-2002....

My 2nd 500E parked at my house for over 2 years was stock...then was driven by my brother and lasted for 2 weeks when it ended up on a center divider on the freeway....

My 3rd present E500 is not gonna be driven by anyone and is parked on my driveway that is now gated..so I want it to be done the right way and the way want it....Signal Red with Black wheels being put on car next week with exhaust and minor upgrades...i should be done with it soon...and lets not forget the delete of SLS i know its bad and ive read up on it a lot but I just like the look, im not tracking the car or driving with heavy loads to worry about it.....so ya thats my story.

Tragic tales to be sure! What's one more, right?

I don't understand why you asked the forum about removing the SLS. You asked for feedback, it was unanimously negative, you said you knew it was bad, already, but you are going ahead with it regardless.
I might be led to suspect that you were just trying to impress?

Go to www.500eboard.com , the techhnical authority on w124 500E500

I suggest you just 'bag it

At the end my car is mine and yours is yours....so you do what you gotta do and il do what im gonna....

And YNVDIZW124 thanks for the comment....

I'm not telling you what to do, David. Like the others here, I have tried to respond to your request for "advice" with an honest opinion based on experience.
Do what you like, it IS your car.
MY point was, it is very clear that you had already decided (and stated as much) what you were going to do before asking for our "advice". People responded helpfully, and you did not like what they said.

Why ask in the first place?

I was fine with the advice and thanks for everyone advice...but i just didn't like your remarks about my former cars issues.....it might be just a story but when you have a 500E and you like it a lot and those type of things happen its not such a good situation...wasn't too happy about your remarks..

thanks anyways for your advice....

Member AndreNY (spelling) on here would......LOVE you David...... I'd suggest PMing him....he's completely totaled the suspension on his 500 for "Cosmetics" just like the rest of our society. God do I sympathize with those other two...... gated driveway and arson...? You wouldn't happen to be a hedge fund manager would you? (no pun intended)

That's fine, no problem, but you DO NOT have to remove the SLS to lower the car, or otherwise "spice it up".

The only thing I could see being a somewhat legitimate reason for an SLS-ectomy would be if the car was going to be used on the track only (no street use), and the SLS was replaced with custom suspension components. But even then there's not much advantage other than a little weight savings...

Yo you can adjust your SLS under the rear bottom of your car. Its a lever that you can set and play with and it will raise or lower the rear of your car.. Its underneath the car on the outside. And if you are going to lower your car why not just buy an aftermarket lowering spring and install it instead of using the SLS system. I mean i see what you want to do but once you lower or slam your car you do not want all that weight to be sitting on those springs. Which those OEM springs are meant to be raised and not compressed by the cars weight.

David,

If you find the correct combination of components, think of producing a conversion kit. Some wagon owners may want it as well...
