Where is the IAC at?

Guys where is the idle air control valve at? My ride has a bad idle and if I sometimes don't give it a litlle gas it just shuts-off, is that all I need to inspect and clean along with the lines near it?

The idle control valve helps stabilize rpms, but it won't cause a rough idle unless the rpm's are so low that it is on the verge of stalling all the time. It is located in front of the distributor and is a black barrel cylinder shaped item. If you have a rough idle look at the idle air hoses first. They become brittle/rock hard over time. Check for vacuum leaks all over with some carb cleaner.

Is this all the time or variable?

Well sometime when I'm just idling or at a stop the rpm's surge up and down at times but mostly like to where its rough and wants to die, but when it gets high in rpms its gotten up to 2000 rpm on its own. I don't even know where it suppose to idle at anymore, I just give it a lil gas everytime I stop or slow down now to make sure its still running.

Ok if its idling up towards 2000rpm then the ICV could be suspect. Pull it off and shoot some carb cleaner all over it and make sure it looks okay. The rough idle could be all the idle air hoses if they have never been replaced.
