300CE TT WIDEBODY BEGINS
First of the early 90's 911SC parts have arrived.
I think they will work and seriously reduce the time and labor involved to custom fabricate as Nick aka Bluecoupe/Bahnstormer did.
Using a bit of imagination and cutting the 911SC valance with your mind at the point it bulges out to the rear, you can see how it appears to fit in a way that it can be easily molded to the Merc lower valance.
Waiting for the 911SC sheetmetal fender flares to arrive and hoping that the fit will be close to the Merc contour...
So far so good

The early 320CE widebody had 8.5 front and 10 rear.
So at the minimum I'll go 10, but will decide when I get a bit more into it...
I'm optimistic that it can be done with second hand sheet metal...
Also have some fiberglass that I got on the cheap...but prefer the metal as it takes a better hammer blow

Before you go much further, I'd highly recommend finding someone with excellent photoshop capabilities to produce a couple of renderings. Taking pictures of both the car and the new arches at the same angle will allow them to blend together in Pshop so that you can see the effect the new parts will have. It's important to have a clear vision of the desired result - both for you and your bodyshop.

The 1991 911SC sheet metal arrived yesterday.
I'm going to tape them up to the body and lay out the cut lines of the flares so they will blend to the Merc body.
Still in unchartered territory but worth a try

Metal guy stopped around yesterday.
I had taped the 911SC flares to the car and laid out some cut marks.
He feels the install won't be too difficult as the shape of the arch is almost dead on to the Merc.
Need to find some 10-10.5" rear rims as it's important to have the wide wheel/tire on the car to adjust the flare.
The front flares will be fabricated on the car as they only need about a two inch extension.
I'm beginning to wonder if AMG bought the SC rear quarter stampings from Porsche for the widebody cars.
Too much similarity and consideration that the SC flare was of the same period

A couple of views from different angles.
Back of the panel is held out by about three to four inches due to a L shaped bracket on the inside of the SC panel.
This area will be cut off as the sheetmetal will be primarily the flare, ending below the gas filler cap.
Once the non required portion is removed it will contour to the C124 quarter panel.
Take a look at the last picture of a C124 Hammer widebody and you can see a similarity in the shape and countour if you use your imagination and do a mental photo shop.
So far I think it is the way to go instead of fabricated from scratch...
Again guessing a company as small as AMG possible obtained metal parts from other German companies such as Porsche ?
Matter of fact the W126 widebody with the flat top flare looks a bit like a 944 turbo flare
It appears that AMG bang out the side panels in the trunk area to match the flare.
This would naturally bend the bumper end outward to flare out.
When you look at it you can see what they did and I still think they used a modified SC panel as it is too close for the efficient Germans not to use !!!

What I see mocking up the front fenders on the rear is that the wheel arch is .5-1" higher. I've noticed in the pictures of the AMG coupe that the rear wheel gap is always higher because I suspect they use 500e front fenders. I've also tried several way to make it look kinda wide body without using fiberglass or having to weld another panel. I found out that using the front fender flare on the rear and cutting and pulling the quarter panel does the trick.
You probably won't like to do it this way or like my ideas but I just found this to be the least expensive and quicker was to achieve what i'm trying to do.

The widebody 124's were built starting in the late eighties to early nineties, a few years before the 500E was produced at Porsche.
Using the SC flares is just like replacing a quarter panel once they are trimmed to fit.

That's who I bought them fom...he sometimes sells just the two flare panels like I bought for $199.00 plus $35.00 shipping...good guy name his name is Nick Mrozinski and he specializes in Porsche sheet metal.
