300ce/e320 coupe

i'm in the market for a w124 coupe. '93 300ce or '94/'95 e320 coupe. sportline option would be nice but not necessary.
this car will be my daily driver so condition is important. doesn't have to be a show car but not looking for a fixer upper. all responses will be answered.
i currently have an '01 sl500 i'd be willing to trade for a car and some cash if anyone is interested. details upon request. thanks in advance, michael

Great car. You will not be disappointed. DO NOT SKIMP ON RESEARCHING THE BACKGROUND OF THE CAR. You will regret it seriously if you do.

Good luck on sourcing a Sportline. They are extremely rare.

94 Wagon and 94 Cabriolet
"Sportline"

lowered by mb, and suspension tightened for sport driving
tighter steering ratio

on sedans, they added Recaro seats

Here are two in my family

(the white and black ones) They do not look much different than stock, but drive out very differently. The white car has 18s, the black has 17s in these shots.

94/95 have the motor I would choose, if'n I had that choice.

i've seen several on craigs list. went and looked at a couple. found a green/tan ;93 ce w/sportline that looked ok cosmetically but had 190k on the clock. called my indy mechanic and he said, minimium $1500 to 2500 to get the service, brakes and suspension up to snuff.
who knows about the engine. no service records and the current owner is a leadfoot. left our meeting like he was at the strip. got onto hiway 1 and ran it thru redline at least thru 3rd.
i loballed him @ $3000 and he refused. asking price is $4400. should i take the chance? motor might last another 50k. my indy says a good rebuild is about $5000 plus labor. don't know if i can justify getting involved to the tune of $10,000. please be blunt if nessary.
i'm thinking if i'm patient i'll find a nice car with records for $6 to 8 K. thanks for the help, michael

Yeah I was thinking about that or just go WALD V4. M104 would be easier and cheaper to maintain. How much are they going for? I haven't checked

I know that putting a E-500-E engine in to a 124 coupe has been discussed but i would love to see this happen for a 94/95 320 coupe, the stock 320 engine is pretty damn potent but if anyone ever got a 500 engine to work with the car it would be awesome

Nice looking cars there. I would assume mine doesn't have the sportsline option, as my suspension is worn out, very loose, but rides great.

'92 Mercedes Benz 300CE SPORTLINE (for real!)

I have what I think you are looking for. My '92 300CE is in excellent condition with less than 84,000 miles on it. It is black with saddle interior. The seats have been covered with sheepskin since the day I got it, so the interior is like new. It has been in the family since day one. Check the VIN: WDBEA51E4NB698312. The car is in Long Island, NY and am looking for $14,500. If you might be interested, email me at m.rich3@verizon.net

I'm just kind of curious, why only a 1993 CE? Is there a difference?

i want the latest 24v engine and '93 was the 1st. year.
if i'm incorrect will someone please clarify.
this car sounds like a candidate if the engine is correct. don't want to mislead the seller or waste his time so please correct the engine information asap, if applicable. thanks, michael

p.s. wolf, i guess this includes your car also. looks like i might have made an incorrect assumption about the year of the 24v engine. if so, i'll contact you for pic's and info.

o.k. heres the latest. the 3.0 24v engine became available in '91 with 217 hp. in '93 the displacement was enlarged to 3.2 with no change in hp but an increase in tq.
so, the qustion is, will a '91/'92 fit the bill? anyone with more detailed knowledge please jump in.
i'm favoring the 3.2 version for two reasons. larger displacement/tq and updated engine compartment ie: intake runners, air cleaner, etc. i think the exterior got some updates also. don't know if the sportline option was available earlier then '93. thanks, michael

None taken! (hence the :P) The 300ce is a special case compared to the w124 sedan. It had the M104 lifted from the 320Sl as well as (in some years, 91+?) it has the Lower Control Arms from the r129 while the sedan did not share any suspension parts from the SL.
Such a confused mix of parts.
