W124 Projector headlights
Hi Guys!
I am new here and this is my first post so please help me out.... I have a W124 E280 1995. The headlights are kinda old and crap and i was thinking of fitting projector headlights with Xenons in it as i like my lighting at night to be very good cos i wear Specs.
What headlights would you guys recommend? My car is Midnight blue so i would want black headlight housings and not chrome. Thanks all.

First off, try to search the forums, there are numerous posts of projector lights with lots of opinions, pictures, reviews, etc.
generally, the projector lights that are available are no good, and adding HID's to them will not help much.
your best bet is to retro-fit real HID projectors into the housings.
if the price is right you could convince me to sell mine..

Well, the OE setup uses a dual filament bulb, one filament for the low beam and one for the high. I see no reason both filaments couldn't be ignited at the same time, but I am sure it has something to do with either the reflector design or flutting of the lense which distributes the light. Thats mostly conjecture though.
If running with bi-xenon projectors, using a pair of SPDT relays, it is possible to wire a circuit so that when you engage the high beams, power is routed back to the low beam circuit. This would allow the bi-xenon shield to operate as it should and the D2S bulb to stay ignited. I did work out a diagram for this a couple of years ago, but never implemented it.

No, this is a factory projector, ballast, D2S setup from a W210 Eclass, those dual HID bulbs require different components that are present in aftermarket kits. Trust me, I have pieced together many different HID kits, if everything is not properly matched you end up with functionality problems.

Yes, high beam engagement actually just moves the shield out of the way, exposing the entire HID bulb to the projector, that is how this design simulates high/low beam using a single filament bulb.

it's called 'advice to give new members when they start posting'. unfortunately, for some of our 'special' members, often those with another man's genitalia proudly displayed in every post they make, it takers a few years for this common sense/advice to sink in.

That is a stellar deal, between getting the hid kit, the projector lights, and the projectors to swap in, I spent nearly $400 just for parts before I even started putting in the insane amount of labor to retro in my hids.
Heh. I read this forum at work, and always have to scroll past his posts really fast. I wonder how many other people never read anything he posts just because of his sig.

Ah, true, that was painful for my retrofit too, since my halogen brights were dimmer than my low beams.
